These statutes were deliberately placed in the middle of the town square by sick individuals who wanted to "rub it in" with the people that they want to, and in many cases, did dominate and subjugate. They were tacky to begin with. You will note the absence in public places of statutes celebrating Native Americans, Union generals, and the emancipation of innocent human beings who were rescued from bondage. The statutes that are being removed are highly political and should be removed to museums and other places where the history of those depicted can be explained in context.
