That penalty should be spelled out in this particular law. What is the penalty attached? A fine for a first time offense, A week or month closure for the second??! Or the penalty varies by whom DeSantis hates most?

Or can DeSantis choose to do anything he wants that he can find to punish them?

What happened in that show that a 16 year old with parent couldn't see?

17 year olds are allowed in to R rated movies for goodness sake, with actors naked and F-ING ON THE SCREEN, without parental supervision?

I have no problems with following laws in place, with defined penalties upfront....

I do have problems singling out a group of RuPaul actors who likely do no more than scanty straight actors, on the stage.... And DeSantis making it all for political showmanship... Since when is a governor the head law enforcement officer and getting involved in every little crime and not working on State problems that are huge problems?

AND

Not letting parents make this decision for their older teen daughter kind of thing...

The thing is the US Constitution gives States huge leeway as to how they regulate alchohol.

It's why you have things like package stores in some states that sell everything, and in New York beer is everwhere but Wine/Booze can only be sold in Liquor stores, and one person can only own up to 3-5 liquor stores to prevent chains.

The thing is, the two aren't really the same. Advocating for public school curricula isn't a speech issue, it's a government service issue. liquor licenses are state issued permits with rules, fully endorsed by the US Constitution.

And abortion is different than any other topic because according to one side another human life is involved.

China has its own version of that going on.

So much ignorance and stupidity in this post.

Drag performers are not "groomers", and drag shows aren't sexual, unless it's for a restricted by age.

For years, I took my kids to these Christmas shows: Every Christmas, Ross and his wife [ballerina Karen Kain], would destroy a well loved children's story with song dance, and men playing some of the women's parts - like the ugly step sisters in Cinderella; the Nurse, in Romeo and Juliet, Aladdin's Mother [a homely woman from Newfoundland].

These delightful shows would be illegal in Florida.

So you took your kids to shows where people exposed their genitalia and that simulated sex acts? Why on earth did you believe it was okay to expose your kids to depraved shows?

Ok, maybe it's a tad more of a sexually explicit comedy, than I thought but it still should be parent deciding imo, and most would not bring a child under 15 or so imo.

I'm doing research on it and here is what I've found.... This show, A Drag Queen Christmas is on a Nationwide Venue. In Florida it has been in Tampa, Ft Lauderdale ...center for performing arts, Miami, Jacksonville etc etc....

The sponsor of a Drag Queen Christmas is a Philharmonic Orchestra Organization...no kidding....I was a little surprised by that too, if y'all are....

The organizer claim on their ticket purchase site they do have a DISCLAIMER that this is a sexually explicit show and those under 18 are not permitted unless accompanied by their parent....and on their confirmation of purchase email.

DeSantis has threaten all of them with revoking their liquor license....along with the Hyatt Hotel.

What is the penalty under defined law? What happens if an explicit drag show is performed in a place without a liquor licence, and those under age of 18 brought in with their parents?

Gees, this can be a slippery slope ya know, for government raising your children....piece by oiece, little by little, inch by inch.... it's all adding up over time....

DeSantis is making a mountain out of a molehill and putting this front and center for himself, for mere 2024 political positioning... that's just plain as day...and expected....imo.

And as such, I guess we need the law prohibiting this because the judgement of the company is completely suspect.

Yeah, right. Where were you when some schools mandated the vax to attend regardless what a parents concerns were? You were fine with that. Or how about the schools helping a child "transition" behind the parents back? I'm sure no problem there either.

I seriously doubt DeSantis handled this situation personally but I also don't think he made up penalties willy-nilly. If they have a law on the books that law includes a list of possible penalties a party can face for violating such law.

I have no idea how old the "child" was and neither do you. But if the law is written as no "minors" then that means nobody under the age of 18 and the penalty doesn't lessen the closer a child is to that age.

Unless it involves tha LBGTQ, then just move along.

This was a family event at a big chain hotel, not a drag show at Le Cage.

I googled drag queens arrested for child sex abuse and I got one hit - a drag queen in Great Britain was arrested for possession of kiddie porn. Not one case of child sexual abuse by drag queens.

Then I did the same search for Boy Scouts. 92,000 children filed claims of child sex abuse filed.

Then there's the Catholic Church

Why aren't these groups being legislated against????

I figure some of the "Drag Show" events are just to rattle the straights. Still, I have no problem with states or cities that want to pass legislation to prevent adult oriented entertainment from being attended by kids.

so you hate Drag and gays and Asians and blacks and Jews- anybody else?

these guys don't seem to be transgender really, just perverted men who dress up just to get in there and attack them. these are seven years old, perhaps there has been some change like drugs to be taken when you're serious about transgendering.... I would certainly feel better if there were real journalists reporting these things, not fox or south Carolina Local LOL seven years ago..... that's a long time ago in the trans situation.

Your lie got called out and you're STILL defending the pedophiles and the groomers. I think you're hiding something.

This is already the law in nearly every place in America. Kids can't go into strip clubs, adult video stores, legal brothels, or sex shops. This is no different, but for some reason there's a certain segment of gay men who are compelled to perform sexually in front of children, and another segment of leftist adults who support it.

Community standards make the community.

I live in a state where alcohol can’t be served in strip clubs and no one 18 is allowed either, is this okay? It is a liquor license, every state has rules when granting a liquor license, you break the rules, you lose your license, this nothing new. Break the law, lose the license. I agree DeSantis is grandstanding but under Florida law, they should have their liquor license revoked but the show is still allowed to continue, just that you can’t consume alcohol.

The issue isn’t that they be allowed, the issue is under terms and agreements when applying for a liquor license, if you violate the terms then you can lose the license. The state of Florida doesn’t believe nudity, kids under 18, simulated sex and alcohol is a good thing. My state is very liberal and doesn’t grant liquor licenses to strip clubs and those under 18, doe that upset you?

Violate the terms of your license and you can lose it.
