Forbes Columnist Fired For Writing That Men Should Protect Women

First, if anyone were to get fired, it should be the editor. That is what they are hired for-to approve or disapprove before publishing. Sounds to me as though the columnist is a scape goat.

Secondly, the same holds true, if what I read here is in truth what the column said, as good advice for sorority houses as well as the frat houses.

Actually, he was fired for warning young men that young women are basically not responsible for anything that happens when they drink alcohol...so why risk having their lives ruined with fake rape accusations when they have drunk sex?
That.
I don't see much a distinction. Here's the heart of his argument:

In addition to the usual bouncers, assign several brothers to monitor female party guests. If any appear out of control, walk them to the door and put them in a cab heading back to their dorm. You can send me the bill. If they refuse to leave, call for an escort from campus police.

Never, ever take a drunk female guest to your bedroom – even if you have a signed contract indicating sexual consent. Based on new standards being promulgated on campus, all consent is null and void the minute a woman becomes intoxicated – even if she is your fiancée. And while a rape charge under these circumstances is unlikely to hold up in a court of law, it doesn’t take much for a campus kangaroo court to get you expelled, ruining your life while saddling your fraternity with a reputation for harboring rapists.
It sure looks to me like he's writing about men protecting children women.

That sounds to you like it's the women being protected?

It sounds to me like the men protecting themselves from possible rape charges.....

If as a kid I help an old granny across the street so I can earn a merit badge at boy scouts, does my motivation for helping the old granny erase the fact that I helped her across the street and was a good citizen?

No.

On the other hand, if you were to write an article about getting your merit badge and claim it was about helping the granny across the street, instead, you would have a closer analogy.

The point of the article seems to be college men protecting themselves from potential rape charges. Any protection afforded to women is purely incidental.

And that was a good subject. How it could be found as objectionable is beyond me.

Anyone who is drunk, man or woman, lacks the legal capacity to consent, sign contracts, or make smart decisions.

There's also a "friends don't let friends drive drunk" which encourages people to take car keys away from a friend who's been drinking, but you're not mocking men who get drunk and make bad decisions.

Drunks of either sex don't make good decisions.

Yes, but drunk men are held responsible for their decisions regarding sex while drunk women are not.

That's because drunk men often sexually molest and abuse drunk women, which is why the blogger suggests that drunk women should be sent home in a taxi. This protects both sides.

There is an epidemic of rape going on in North American college campuses. Something that universities have attempted to cover up for fear it will affect enrolment and donations.

Even back when I was in school, a girl who was drunk was considered "fair game". Now there are odourless and tasteless drugs being slipped into drinks which render the victim unable to fight back, and leave her with little, if any memory of the assault.

Convictions are nearly impossible to obtain because the victim's memory of the attack is compromised and drug tests must be done within 5 hours of ingesting the drug, for it to be detected in the system. When questioned, the attackers simply say the woman consented. Unless there are witnesses to the attack, which is rare, the "reasonable doubt" standard cannot be met.

There are some here who would say that if a woman drinks, or goes out and puts herself at risk, it's her fault. Guys get a free pass if they assault a drunk girl.

Girls shouldn't have to protect constantly protect themselves from sexual assault. If a man flashes a wad of cash, and is later robbed, the robber doesn't go free because the victim "asked for it".

Bullpucky. There is no rape epidemic on college campuses. Rape in society has actually fallen drastically. What has increased is women's willingness to have sex while their inhibitions are lowered by alcohol and then regretting their decisions when sober.

Regret rape IS NOT RAPE.

Even back when I was in school, a girl who was drunk was considered "fair game".

Drunk women are just as much fair game as drunk men. People drink to lower their inhibitions. Men drink to build up liquid courage to hit on women. Women drink to make it OK for them to be sluts.

Now there are odourless and tasteless drugs being slipped into drinks which render the victim unable to fight back, and leave her with little, if any memory of the assault.

This is actually a crime. Sure, some guys do this but this is not what is at issue. Guys don't need drugs when women are racking up higher mean partner counts than men.

There are some here who would say that if a woman drinks, or goes out and puts herself at risk, it's her fault. Guys get a free pass if they assault a drunk girl.

When a drunk man gets behind the wheel of a car and gets stopped by the police, he is still held accountable for driving while drunk. If a woman consents to have sex while she is drunk, she should be treated like an adult and also held accountable for her decision.

Girls shouldn't have to protect constantly protect themselves from sexual assault. If a man flashes a wad of cash, and is later robbed, the robber doesn't go free because the victim "asked for it".

If the woman is sexually assaulted, no one is arguing that the man should go free. A common female complaint is that the woman who consented wasn't sober when she consented and so her consent shouldn't count and the man should be treated as a rapist. No, I can't support that formulation.

They were probably outraged about the cab suggestion because she would have to pay for it herself.

If the guy really did write that, I disagree. To me, when a woman drinks, all that doing that does is compromise their ability to protect themselves from anything that can happen later on. Unless a gun is in the picture, both male and female should be held accountable for all that they do.

God bless you always!!! :) :) :)

Isn't that what feminists expect though? That men need to be responsible for themselves and women. Just can't say it though? Whereas the women is absolved from any responsibility for actions, even voluntary ones while drinking, because women are children according to liberals I guess. But men are held accountable.

Feminists don't expect men to look after them. They expect men to LEAVE THEM ALONE when they are drunk or otherwise incapacitated. If a man gets drunk and someone beats him up and robs him, that person is arrested and thrown in jail. When a woman gets drunk, and someone rapes her, that person says she consented and they get off.

Men are seldom held accountable when they treat women badly. That's why it happens so often - because men know they can get away with it. And that's the issue.

Oh, this is so much bullshit.

EVERY person on this board has no doubt known women who got drunk as an excuse to have random sex , then the next day they could say "I wouldn't have done that if I wasn't drunk" to all their friends.

The issue exploded with the advent of social media when guys were stupid enough to take pictures and shit of it and when suddenly these teenage sluts found their slutty pictures online and were afraid their parents or someone else might find out what sluts they are. So cry rape, being seen as a drunk is better than being seen as a slut I suppose.

Of course there are real rapes occurring on college campuses and those should be addressed but two drunks having sex isn't rape.

Feminists aren't very smart. You have to be an idiot to purposely put yourself at risk and then count on the criminal to reform his ways in order to make for a safer world.

Mothers, stop warning your kids to run away from Free Candy vans, instead let's focus on child abductors reforming their behavior.

Your analogy doesn't work because it doesn't create a parallel. The drunk isn't beaten up, he picks a fight and get's beaten, and so the person he targeted is let go due to a claim of self-defense, just like the guy who had sex with a drunk woman who consented. Alternatively you can go the other direction, the drunk guy gets beat up and the attacker goes to jail, just like the rapist who raped a woman who didn't consent.

See, there's no double standard.

Look, the problem here is that women can't be trusted to act like adults when they're drunk, so the simple solution is to make it illegal for women to drink alcohol until they're 50 and no longer as sexually attractive. Alternatively, women "man-up" and learn to act like adults when they're drunk, a large part of which constitutes accepting responsibility for one's own actions even when drunk, just as men do.

Men are seldom held accountable when they treat women badly. That's why it happens so often - because men know they can get away with it. And that's the issue.

Do you have any idea how much emotional violence women firehose at men? You probably don't because you're safely ensconced within your bubble of female privilege and are completely oblivious to the harm you do to men. Women are never held accountable for that, whereas men are actually held accountable for physical assault against women.

Regret rape is not a crime.
