Unless the helmsman was attempting to make course corrections, then the rudder would cut to whatever the position of the wheel would be.

Anyhow..lost power at the exact wrong moment...and physics did the rest. Crew were just along for the ride...at that point....an anchor would have just dragged anyway.

Never piloted one..wasn't a ship driver...but the officers always clenched their assholes until we were through.
Career ending doesn't begin to describe what would happen if we actually hit anything.

But being that close to a bridge you would expect a course would be set already. Like an airplane on final approach.
