Free Lunch

Be a Classical Liberal.

How about I be me and not worry about labels or fitting in to some cast?

Are you man enough to call bullshit on the bullshitters and still believe that America Rocks?

Done so this whole time

Classic Liberal is not just a label, it is the reason we get a warm, fuzzy feeling about the word 'Liberty'. It is an attitude about our neighbors and understanding that what may be right for me is not necessarily right for them.

Really? Is that why you called 'most' of us "stupid children" earlier in this thread?

-Joe

Bullshit.

Most Americans are hard working, middle-class people trying to raise their kids and store a piece of the pie for their golden years.

Most Americans are just about fed up with the status quo and its greedy grip on the washington gravy-train.

Most Americans are unwilling to believe that things won't get better in terms of political fairness in this country without some of the infrastructure their parents worked so hard to build being torn down in the process - but we are close, and watch out when the shit starts hitting the fan.

Americans are not stupid; we are still, for the most part, comfortable enough, even this close to the edge... Don't push.

-Joe

Sorry, Joe, but I have to disagree with that for the most part.

Flashback:

Obama and Edwards Tag-Team Clinton
Narrowed Democratic Field Faces Off in First Debate Since Iowa's Stunning Results
By MARCUS BARAM
Jan. 5, 2008

Sen. Barack Obama got some unexpected help during a heated exchange with Sen. Hillary Clinton in tonight's debate, from former Sen. John Edwards, who snatched second place from Clinton in Iowa's caucus.

Comparing her to the "forces for status quo," Edwards said that Obama "believes deeply in change, and I believe deeply in change. Anytime you speak out for change, this is what happens. The forces for status quo are going to attack."

Edwards also defended Obama against Clinton's charge that Obama has switched his positions on health care and the Patriot Act. "To say that Senator Obama is having a debate with himself from some Associated Press story, I think is just not -- that's not the kind of discussion we should be having."

Watch complete replays of the debate Sunday and Monday on ABC News Now. CLICK HERE to see how.

Clinton shot back, emphasizing, "Making change is not about what you believe or about making a speech, it's about working hard." Raising her voice, she said, "I want to make change, but I've already made change. I'm not running on a promise of change. But on 35 years of change … we don't need to raise false hopes of people in our country about what can be delivered."

Oh, let me not forget the smackdown shots....

And she almost shouted: "I think that having a first woman president is a huge change."

The back and forth got so heated that fourth-place candidate Bill Richardson quipped, "I've been in hostile negotiations that are a lot more civil than this."

Obama and Edwards Tag-Team Clinton - ABC News

So.... the "stupid" people who believed in the false hopes are responsible for this....

All hopes are real until proven false. As disappointed with Obama as I am, I still think that the better man won - if for no other reason than McSame was already part of the status quo. We've had one speech by a sitting president that truly called 'bullshit' on the bullshitters, made February 24 of this year. Soon after that, it seems Mr. Obama was recruited by the same status quo that used Bush as such an effective tool, and politics as usual descended like a dark cloud back on to Washington.

-Joe

All hopes are rhetoric when falling from the lips of politicians, for the most part. I chose not to go with the "status quo" or to fall for the rhetoric that's now becoming evident to those who did. Obama is becoming what he railed against in his rhetoric, and it's a pity so few saw it coming.

and yet... look who keeps getting elected...

If you believe that human politics is easy, go home to mama for a few years. Demand better. Be a Classical Liberal. The power that is will not let their gravy-train be re-directed by us or anybody else without a fight, and it won't be easy. Storming the castle with pitch-forks ain't going to do it this time.

The bullshitters here are those that believe that paying twice as much per capita as any other industrial nation and getting far less in return is a good thing. We can do better, and will. And that is from a blue collar liberal that has been around since the middle of WW2.

Have you looked at America lately?

Yup, I have. I have kids with kids working hard to keep them healthy and educate them. I have nephews and a niece who are brilliant and in college. Some of the shit they're working on boggles my mind - with the help of their peers they can and will change the world. Just because stupidity is noisy doesn't mean that America is stupid.

I come from the West Coast, Seattle specifically and I have lived in Texas, Colorado and the upper Mid West. Last summer I worked my way up and back down the Eastern Seaboard. I've seen a lot of America and I've met LOTS of Americans. All are hardworking and just want a level playing field. So far this summer, I drove my personal vehicle from SE Florida to Houston, TX and back - a small window on America, 'tis true, but I can honestly say that I've seen Americas bones and I've met her soul. As in need of maintenance as our infrastructure of roads, bridges, airports, shipping facilities, power grid, communications grid, etc is, we still have an infrastructure that is not only the envy of the rest of the world, but as busy as I've ever seen it. And, in spite of the traffic, my average speed from Mississippi to S. Florida was 73 mph. The freedom to travel unrestricted through 5 states and back rocks. America's soul is alive and well.

America rocked when Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan served their terms, America rocked when Bush and Bush II were separated by 8 years of Clinton. America rocked back then and America rocks now. It matters not who is getting the headlines for our politics - we're not working for them. True, the big scare tactic has been that soon we will be, but look around - it is NOT going to happen. We, The People will NOT allow it. The most recent election may not have been perfect, but it was the best possible outcome for the economic war we are fighting - war is never pretty, even intellectual warfare.

This is being typed on a 9 year old made in the USA Mac while I sip a tasty brew named Landshark that was made in Jacksonville FL and listen to my personal selection of Classic Rock. I'm looking forward to playing my American made Martin guitar and taking my American Mutts to the beach this weekend in my American made Jeep. I worked hard this week and I deserve some play time. I just realized that I still have my American made cowboy boots on - they're that comfortable.

I don't live here because I was born here, I live here because I choose to live here. I've been to Europe, Canada, Mexico, S. Africa and India and I choose to live in America.

I can walk into a bar or market and strike up a conversation with men and women of many colors, backgrounds and belief systems... we'll agree on lots and agree to disagree about some. And if we're not careful, we may just learn something.

Don't give up on America or Americans. Don't make the mistake of counting the American soul as 'irrelevant'...

America Rocks!

-Joe

It's interesting that most Americans recognize that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Yet, temporarily, some seem to forget that concept. When politicians run for office, they promise all sorts of "free lunches" and they tend to get votes for that.
Reality eventually sets back in and the foolish voters realize that free lunch they so foolishly voted for is going to cost big money. Money they don't have.
Mr Obama's health care plan is the current free lunch we can't afford. As soon as more details start materializing more people will see that.

I hold Obama responsible for his lack of leadership thus far, but the cookie jar has been, and continues to be, raided by the professional, mercenary lobbyists that hold the leashes of congress and the administration.

Good government is neither a pipe dream nor impossible... demand an end to professional lobbying.

-Joe
You can blame lobbyists all you want, but when it comes time to decide if a bill becomes a law, it isn't a lobbyist casting that vote, it's a congressman.

Absolutely.

Blame goes to professional, mercenary lobbyists.

RESPONSIBILITY belongs on the head of the congresscritter.

I don't know who you are, or how you vote, but I like the way you think! :clap2:

Only when taken with free government cheese and ham.
If you can afford eggs, you can have an omelet with yer vodka.

I hope you're joking.

I'd rather point out the idiocy of government and hope that people are aware enough to actually understand the joke.

Nah, I've never had kraft american cheese. In the blue box. Or, wasn't it in a big cardboard box years ago? Oh, yeah....gov't cheese. Grandmother used to get it.
