Democrats never get to inherit a good economy. Republicans screw it up so bad, the democrats get elected to fix the economy. That's what was behind FDR, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Republicans put the country into recession / depression, and somebody had to fix it.
Of course, after democrats leave a booming economy republicans take the credit for it, but inevitably mess it up with tax cuts for the rich, and booming deficits.
