Gas prices..

The bear market in oil has analysts reassessing the U.S. shale boom after five years of historic growth.

The U.S. benchmark price dropped to $79.78 a barrel on Oct. 16, the lowest since June 2012. At that level, one-third of U.S. shale oil production would be uneconomic, analysts for New York-based Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. led by Bob Brackett said in a report yesterday.

Oil at 80 a Barrel Muffles Forecasts for U.S. Shale Boom - Bloomberg

Back to where it was before Obama aided and abetted the murder of Khadafi, throwing Libya to the terrorists.

Oil prices drop -- who wins and who loses WashingtonExaminer.com

The cause of the current plunge has been this year’s global economic slowdown, especially in Europe and China. Demand has fallen off and crude oil has glutted the world market. Prices will stay low as long as the world’s economic system remains in low gear.

But that system will be the first big winner in this current oil market. A sustained drop in the cost of energy means lower costs both for consumers and producers. Look for world economic growth to get a big shot in the arm in 2015 from what’s been happening this summer and fall.

The other big winner will be the U.S. consumer. Americans are already seeing the impact at the pump, with gas prices averaging $3 a gallon. If the price of Brent crude falls to 80 dollars a barrel, that’s the equivalent of a $600 annual rebate for every American household — and a $1.8 billion daily windfall for the world economy.

The third big winner, paradoxically, will be the U.S. oil industry. Fears that the price plunge will force cutbacks in production appear very premature. In fact, if Congress gets its act together and lifts its forty-year old ban on oil exports, we could actually see a spurt in production as we begin exporting our light tight crude, which refineries in Europe, Japan and other industrialized Asian countries prefer to the sour, heavy crude that flows out of OPEC’s Gulf states.

If obama said he would drop all current restrictions on exploration, production and transportation of oil, the price would drop over night....the economy would skyrocket.

America's energy policies assuredly affect the price of oil on the market.

Not necessarily. US domestic production starts to become unprofitable when oil goes below $80/barrel.

US domestic production is expensive. US producers are not going to operate at a loss. They will suspend production.

..and why is producing oil so expensive in the u.s.?

So which is it that you prefer?

High gas prices because we have to import oil because of restrictive political regulations preventing production here?

....or high gas prices because the market is manipulated by enemies of the u.s. to cripple this nation?
Low prices because the market is manipulated by enemies of the US (Obama, OPEC, ISIS) to cripple this nation.
.
I guarantee you, ISIS has nothing to do with manipulating gas prices.

OPEC does. And its interest is the same as Big Oil's --- Money. There's no monetary return in "crippling this nation". As much oil as we consume, it would be economic suicide.

Think about it. That would be like McDonald's trying to "cripple fat people". What for?

:cuckoo:

If obama said he would drop all current restrictions on exploration, production and transportation of oil, the price would drop over night....the economy would skyrocket.

Bullshit.

Oil companies already sit on 68 million acres of unexpolited-but-leased land. Even if they had the equipment available to do it (which they don't) and even if they were interested in flooding the market with new product (which they aren't), and even if there were refineries to process it (which there aren't), it still goes to that same international market.

The day it gets there, OPEC says, "ah, the Dutch (Shell) /British (BP) /American oil companies are bringing in ten skillion new barrels. Cut our production by ten skillion barrels. What's for lunch?"

End result: net zero.

"We" don't make oil. Oil companies make oil. They're not at all interested in what you're paying at the pump. They're interested in what their profit margin is. Period.

OPEC says, "ah, the Dutch (Shell) /British (BP) /American oil companies are bringing in ten skillion new barrels. Cut our production by ten skillion barrels. What's for lunch?"

Exactly. Because paying for their bloated, gotta keep the Islamists happy, budgets is easy when they don't pump as much oil as they can. LOL!

Whatever that means... :dunno:

Oil commerce has nothing to do with "Islamism", let alone any religion. It's a cartel. Its purpose is to steer/stranglehold the market by mutually managing its member countries' resources. Some of its members are Venezuela, Ecuador and Angola, places not known for a whole lot of turning toward Mecca.

Guess that makes it "keeping the Islamists and Christianists happy".

It's astounding how many partisan hacks are willing to profess abject ignorance of how the free market works.

It means that Muslim countries that have no source of revenue, except for oil, will not be able to cut production by "ten skillion barrels".

With the exception of Saudi Arabia, they'll all pump all out, because if they don't, their people will starve/revolt.

The truth is Barack O'bama personally sets prices

If it were up to him, prices would be a lot higher.
But it's not, he's just a weak politician who used to read a good teleprompter.

Next you will try to tell us Obamatards anti-coal policies and regulations didn't effect that industry either. /eyeroll

So you have no answer.

That's OK. I didn't expect one.

That's like demanding proof the sky is blue. Feel free to explain to us how Obama's anti-oil anti-coal policies and regulations have not negatively effected these industries, that should be good for a laugh.

Ummmmmm..... it ain't my job to prove your negative. It's your job to prove your point.

:cuckoo:

Its my job to point out liberal deflection, ^^^. I suppose the 18,000 pages of Obamacare regulations haven't had a negative effect on the economy either? Apparently cause and effect does not exist in the liberal world.

And once again: no answer.
It's like clockwork.
Well try this one, funny it was plainly presented in previous posts, but once again, you are right,it is an international market, but what you are ,and I believe intentionally ignoring, the emotional side of commodities trading.Weather, the threat of weather, international occurrences effect oil futures trading by the hour, more than ever. 20 -30 years ago oil would float around changing by pennies slowly, not anymore.

The truth is Barack Obama would set prices on every pump if he had the secret app. It would be $6.00 a gallon instead of $3.00 a gallon if he had got his way. As it is, the oil companies came up with advanced technology to develop shale oil and perfected fracking.

I did read somewhere that there is a price war going on with OPEC countries all competing for the Chinese, Indian and several other countries markets. The very fact that they are losing the sale of lot of oil to the US means they have to compete which lowers the price.
I might add, in spite of Obama's efforts to minimize US oil production.
One of the very first things he did when he took office was rescind Bush's Executive Order that would allow off shore drilling. Now the Chinese are drilling exploratory wells off the coast of Florida. Then he blocked the Keystone pipeline and awarded far fewer drilling permits on federal land.
I am somewhat less than an expert, but feel free to correct any misconceptions that I have.

seems like just yesterday (2008/09) Gas was under $2 a Gallon. even here..

Yeah it was. And the previous summer (of '08) it was over four bucks, an all-time record that stands to this day.

Quite a plummet in six months, wouldn't you say?

Why do you suppose that happened? What kind of event would affect international commodity markets in such a way?
Nope, I sure can't remember anything significant happening say around September 14th, can you?

This administration has had the highest average pump prices than any administration in history.

To the extent that any administration has anything to do with "having" pump prices, probably so.
As did the one before that, and the one before that, and the one before that, and the one before that....

Wow, you think, what shall we call it, "inflation" is some kind of historical pattern?
Deep, man.

I don't deny that some of the oil from the pipeline may be exported and put on the world market. Likewise, some of it will be refined instead of buying crude from those that want to destroy the US. Any oil added to the world supply results in lower prices, or in OPEC reducing their production and depriving them of US dollars. The US export of oil also helps our balance of payment which is a good thing.

HAVANA (AP) — A Norwegian-owned platform arrived in waters off Cuba's north-central coast for exploratory drilling by the Russian oil company Zarubezhneft, authorities said Saturday, renewing the island's search for petroleum after three failed wells this year.
Drilling is to begin "in the coming days" and take six months, according to a notice published by the Communist Party newspaper Granma. The depth of the project was given as 21,300 feet (6,500 meters).

OPEC was expected to cut production before a meeting scheduled for next month in Vienna, Bloomberg reports.

... “The statements from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait make it clear that they aren’t doing anything until the meeting, which is more than a month away,” he added. <<

>> Angola, Libya and Venezuela have all said OPEC needs to take action on prices, with the Latin American nation’s President Nicolas Maduro calling for an emergency meeting in a televised address Oct. 17. Global markets are oversupplied by about 1 million barrels a day and OPEC needs to reduce collective output by at least 500,000 barrels a day, Libya’s OPEC governor Samir Kamal said by e-mail yesterday, adding that his comments reflected personal views. CNBC: Will OPEC cut oil production to boost price?

Ah, what the hell, I'm just kidding. The truth is Barack O'bama personally sets prices on every pump with a secret app on his teleprompter. You go ahead and run with that.

Oh noes -- the old yellow peril drilling off Florida thing again :laugh2:

I remember that one. A moldy oldie. George Will wrote it, and The Dick Cheney toked on it and passed it around, but it was bullshit.

>> In a column published 5 June 2008, syndicated columnist George Will wrote that a Chinese oil company was then drilling in Cuban waters 60 miles (97 km) from the Florida coast, a claim that was repeated by candidates in favor of offshore drilling.[11] George Will later acknowledged that no drilling was then taking place in that part of Cuban waters. << (Wiki)

The pipeline we've been over a million times; all it does is make it easier for Big OIl to get crude to Houston where after refining it can be easily loaded on ships to Asia. Has nothing to do with our pump supplies. In other words the only people who beneift are those with an "on" in their name (e.g. Exxon, Chevron, Marathon...)

Somebody else can take the drilling permits question. It's more complex than I have time for. But the other stuff has been done before.

Self proclaimed expert, simplistically leaving out so many things, but it make it easier for him to understand the programed talking points.

Evil big oil, those some scary people!!
