We can't afford to keep locking-up non-violent offenders at a world-class rate.

U.S. moves to curb long, mandatory drug sentences | Reuters
longstanding unjust treatment of many nonviolent drug offenders, aiming to bypass tough mandatory prison terms while reducing America's huge prison population and saving billions of dollars.

We make China look like amateurs by comparison. The Prison Industrial Complex fleecing of the taxpayers has to stop, I think libertarians will agree w/ me on this ;) , much like the bloated Military Industrial complex has come under scrutiny many years ago for its extravagantly bloated budgets. The Pentagon is now too big to audit. Do we want the Prison Industrial complex to become a budgetary black hole as well?

Thank you General Holder for talking about the "elephant in the room", as it were. Now, lets roll up our sleeves and git 'r done.

His decision has no effect on state prosecutions.

It is just the thing someone would say if they, perhaps, intended a presidential run.

Of course he's not a general. You gotta smoke a lot of pot to give him a military title. The surgeon general isn't a general either.

Boehner's Tea Party House is limiting what can be done to process defendants as well due to forcing the sequester. Nice going Repubs/r-partiers

I agree with not putting pot heads in prison. However, crack and heroin junkies should be locked up if they are committing crimes to support their habits ... until a real cure for addiction come along because 12 step programs is bullshit.

The surgeon general isn't a general either.

You're right, he's an admiral

The Surgeon General is a commissioned officer in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, one of the seven uniformed services of the United States, and by law holds the rank of vice admiral.

The term "General" after the terms "Attorney" and "Surgeon" is actually an adjective. That's why the plural is "attorneys general" or "surgeons general".

California released 5400 low level drug offenders. 3100 of them were shortly rearrested for more crimes and are back behind bars.

Are these freed felons going to be the officers in Obama's civilian army?
