George W Bush talks Trump-era policy: media 'indispensable to democracy'

Amendment 1

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Thomas Jefferson

The people are the only censors of their governors: and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty. The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs thro’ the channel of the public papers, & to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people. The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers & be capable of reading them.

This really rings true now that we have the orange clown in office.

and where has anyone even proposed a law that prohibits free speech or freedom of the press?

George W Bush talks Trump-era policy: media 'indispensable to democracy'

Former Republican US president George W Bush diverged sharply from Trump’s new administration on Monday, saying he supported a welcoming immigration policy and praising the media as “indispensable to democracy”.

<more>
The problem with the media is that the owners of the media companies have their own biases, thus they hire journalists who reflect those biases and in return, you have news agencies that are biased towards their preferred political candidates. It would be nice if a media company came along and just reported the news without trying to slant it to favor one side or another and if when they presented a debate, had equally qualified subject matter experts on differing sides do the debate. Also, allow debaters to join in that represented the more outlying parties.

You should inform Fox, Breibart etc. of your displeasure of their biases.

I include Fox and others in that statement. As you will notice, I didn't cite leftist-socialist-proto-communist medias, I was clearly referring to them all.
