And that's not entirely true either. We seized The Phillippines, Puerto Rico as part of the Spanish American War.

We annexed Hawaii, which was a sovereign nation in 1899 ,



We annexed the Mariana Islands, Caroline Islands, and Marshall Islands after WWII.
