First, there is no correlation between good debate performance and good performance as POTUS. Obama did quite well in debates but has been a disaster as POTUS, so nuff said I guess.

Second, the FOX media types are part of the political class, in this case they are part of the Republican Party media support group. They exist in the same echo chamber that the Inside the Beltway politicians circulate in and so they have made the same observations about 'attacking' John McCain, slandering all Mexicans and wanting gun fights in the middle of American streets by allowing military personnel to concealed carry on post. Tonight's performance by Trump, while not stellar did not hurt him either, IMO. For many people like myself, when Trump refused to pledge to not run as an independent it was kudos for honesty, while the partisans took it as an indicator of betrayal and if they take steps against Trump they will possibly create a self-fulfilling prophesy. I don't think this hurt Trump at all, and he might go up even more among independents in the polls.

But of course I could be totally wrong. We will just have to see.

As to the debate performances....

Huckabee I think accomplished more. His remarks did not seem canned and he handled topic changes gracefully and his joke at the end was a zinger that even the target laughed about. : A+

Rubio is more and more impressive to me and I used to hate the guy. His general perspective and viewpoints are inspirational and moving. :A+

Dr. Carson had a great performance that was funny and informed. A+

Cruz did quite well, but he was a debater in college and as a lawyer has had many court cases and clerked at the SCOTUS, so I guess he would almost have to be good at such. A

Walker did little, said nothing inspiring and was just flat. He did not help himself tonight. C

Trump needed to score some good points and I don't think he had many at all. I think he may fall a bit in the polls, but will ascend again. C-

Rand Paul did well enough, but he has this posture that seems contemptuous of others on the stage. Strong on facts, civil liberties but weak on generic impressions. B+

Kasich did well enough; nothing spectacular. C

Christy is a joke, an economic conservative who wants to jail anyone that sets foot in New Jersey with a gun legal or not and for any reason. D

Jebba the Bush again demonstrated that the worst mediocrity can still become even more mediocre. D

On more reflection, I think Trump did not damage himself as much as many assume. FOX has been trying to snag the guy for months but Trumps people knows this and so the bullshit controversies like the 'horrid insults' to McCain that came from Trump initially saying that McCain was not a war hero then retracting that immediately and stating McCain was a war hero FOUR TIME IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS. Everyone that watched the video recognized the fact that Trump did nothing to insult McCain, but the journalists are protecting the turf with the GOP establishment which includes Roger Ailes and the FOX owner, pornographer Murdoch.

Trumps supposed heresy of saying he wondered if Megyn Kelly was friendly, i.e. neutral and objective, is similarly being hyped as Trump the mean guy, when Trump had been baited multiple times before with 'gotcha' questions. I'm surprised no one came out and just asked Trump when did he stop beating his wife. The little imp Chris Wallace plainly showed that he didn't understand the relevance of Trumps answer on how he would handle deficits with his knowledge of finance, since Wallace is apparently too stupid to connect the dots himself. Guess he will have to wait for Will or Krauthammer to explain it to him. I suspect a great many others picked up on this as well and will move into Trumps camp along with those who just hate the GOP establishment like I do.

So I am happy that my man, Dr Carson, and Gov Huckabee shined in the debates, but they are still vulnerable to the PC attacks of the GOP establishment since it can cause donors to dry up in a barrage of negative advertising, as Romney demonstrated in 2012. But I am hoping that Trump does well enough that the establishment will abandon their RINO Dimocrat-lites and go with an actual conservative to head Trump off.

It's still worth a shot.

All in all, I don't think Trump had quite the disaster that FOX is trying to spin it into, and when Trump shows his resilience again at the polls, dropping maybe to the low 20s, I wonder how FOX will intensify their attacks on Trump.

But I think we can all see now how there is no 'fair and balanced' to FOX coverage of Trump. FOX is fetching water for Bush and Rubio, with Bush starting to look like a stalking horse for Rubio.

Trump kicked Fox News' teeth in.

The "hand raising" question at the start of the debate was a facile and infantile attempt by the GOP establishment to embarrass and marginalize Trump. He laughed in their faces. Why would he agree to give up the leverage that has them quaking in their boots?

The GOP leaders do not understand the anger and frustration that rank and file republicans feel towards the feckless and timid GOP "leadership"(sic). What good is it to win the house and senate if you fail to use the power to advance conservative policies or slow down Obama? Why so damn timid?? Trump is tapping in to that vein of frustration and the idiots at Fox played right into his hands. In 6 months nobody will remember anything about this debate except Trump raising his hand........

Trump = winner, by a mile
Carson = 2nd

The rest = meh.....who gives a shit? It's more than 6 months before the first caucuses.......none of this matters.

Yeah, Trump honestly raising his hand showed defiance toward the GOP establishment that just stupefies the professional political class, to include the partisan journalists like the FOX moderators. They really think that they did a solid 'Gotcha' ambush on Trump but they failed utterly and they cannot understand that. In their little GOP echo chamber, Trump labeled himself a traitor. To Trumps view he simply refused to do a stupid thing and sacrifice leverage to the GOPe, and I think more people respect that than are dismayed by his supposed partisan disloyalty.

Fuck both the damned parties, I am sick of them lying to us election after election and then bending over and taking it up the ass for corporate lobbyists..

And Trump still leads in the poll on Drudge and the professional political class journalists are in full spin mode trying to debunk anything that looks remotely good for Trump, all the while not realizing that they are STRENGTHENING the man.

And this is how the establishment is overturned, when they become so blind that they can no longer see the real world but only their own self deluded phantasms.

Just saw on FOX a 'body language expert' who said Trump lost the debate because he failed to keep his arms in.
