The Seattle city council just passed a watered down version of the headtax that targeted Amazon a few years ago that they later had to rescind. Amazon actually halted construction on one of it's sites in downtown and let it be known they were looking for a place to relocate out of downtown (Bellevue, looking at you).

Amazon, Microsoft, Expedia and some of the other big companies in the Puget Sound areas have all instructed their employees to continue to work from home until around October. I haven't heard of anything to the contrary and since the stay-at-home order, although officially lifted, has sort of been put on pause as far as reopenings are concerned, the permission to work from home may end up getting extended even beyond October. Which brings up my point.

If the city of Seattle is taxing big businesses X% or their payroll for everyone who is employed because the company headquarters is located in downtown, they would have every incentive in the world to allow their employees who don't live in the city of Seattle to work from home.

I love Amazon and at first felt that they (the city council) just wanted to punish them for their success. But after hearing some of the things said, it sounds more like they're infuriated at their wealth and are demanding that they share it with the less fortunate.

Nothing inspires confidence that they would do any better with anyone else's money than they have been doing with their own and if all of the biggest companies pulled out of downtown I would not blame them. In fact I think that's a prudent course of action.

Oh, let me bring this back around to the original topic. Yes I believe they are making poor choices all the way around.

I've been saying this for years. And we even have glaring example of democrats in positions of power pushing laws through that allow violent criminals to be released early from prison and then within days or weeks commit murder. The politicians then sometimes call for more gun control.

Well obviously, first they will slash the police budget, then watch crime soar, then announce that they must crack down on all of the violence and shooting because people have guns! If they didn't have guns, they couldn't be doing all of the shooting. They hate to do it, but they are just going to HAVE TO ban firearms in the city.
