'Hamilton' Sets Box Office Record After Mike Pence Controversy

"Add another accolade to Hamilton's gigantic trophy case.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit musical has set a Broadway record for the most money earned in a single week, according to The New York Times. The production raked in $3.3 million for eight shows and is the first show to surpass $3 million in revenues for an eight-show week. (Wicked earned $3.2 million for a nine-performance week in 2013, The Times reports.)

The success comes the week after President-elect Donald Trump criticized the cast for reading a statement to Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who attended a show on Nov. 18 and was booed by some audience members. "We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir," said actor Brandon Victor Dixon while addressing Pence during the curtain call. "But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us, all of us."

Trump said the cast "harassed" Pence and demanded an apology."

...there's your apology, big mouth.

White House, House, Senate, Supreme Court, state houses.

The Democrats talked about skin color, bathrooms and birthday cakes, the GOP talked about jobs, borders and security.

Anyway, congratulations on the success, Hamilton.

Good of you to finally come out of the political closet.

Exactly. Apparently now a call for upholding our inalienable rights is heresy.

Since no one in Congress has made even a mention of passing a law restricting their rights, it is apparent that their freedom of speech was never in jeopardy. Wow, what awesome freedom fighters who fight a nonexistent foe. Tilt at those windmills!

Nothing like a little controversy to pump up those attendance numbers.

It is not surprising, the arts tend to be Democrat dominated, for some reason.

The same party who hates tradition and western hemegony is ironically the same party keeping classical music and Broadway acting alive.

You either lie, or you're ignorant. One example:

Kinda hard to be "doom" when it's sold out for like two years...
