Has Democrat Party Lost the White Vote?

Of course not re: Has the Democrat Party lost White Voters?

Millennials don't care about race like X and boomers.

Maybe.....but if you're correct Jake then it underscores the Dems problems even more. They have relied on what they have perceived as a demographic shift in their favor.

If younger people are beginning to no longer care about race then young minorities voters will cease to vote for Dems as a monolithic block.

We are just starting to see that so again....maybe you're right. :)

That, along with the idea that race and economic status are not so closely tied together anymore.

A poor white family might be more likely to be liberal, than an upper middle class black family.

Thank you queen for informative post. I am not quite sure that the research is on the up and up. What I heard about Colorado was that Gardner got more Latino votes, women votes and I believe younger votes. Tom Cotton also led in a state that has gone totally from democratic to republican, it can't be all white people in a state that Bill Clinton won a number of times. And can the black Tim Scott of South Carolina owe his election totally to white people, I don't think so. Finally what happened to the repubs can't win without minority votes, funny how the reality changes so much in two years. What the hell do these talking heads know?

Minorities tend to vote less in midterms, and more Republican in midterms (Hispanics for instance tend to vote more Republican in midterms, and very heavy democratic in presidential election years).

Regardless, presidential elections are what matters. And the GOP does terrible with minorities there.

Oh, and Dems won 38% of the white vote, which was slightly higher than in 2010.

No.....your facts are wrong. The Democrats lost white voters more so than any other election. Black voters are also beginning to slowly move away from the Democrat party.

A key quote from the AP:

"The rule of thumb was Democrats could win with 90 percent of the African-American vote and 40 percent of the white vote," said Merle Black, a political science professor at Emory University in Atlanta.

"But now very few Democrats could think about getting 40 percent of the white vote. They're trying to get 30 percent. In the Deep South states, from South Carolina to Louisiana, it's very hard for the Democratic candidate to get 25 percent of the white vote."

The article states Dems have steadily lost the white vote since the 2006 mid-terms. Not good news.....particularly since blacks in this last election cycle are voting under the 90% target the Dems need to win.

Not according to most pundits and one Harvard study, Jake. Of the ones who know anything about politics, the trend is away from socialism.

I am well informed, AA, among the best on the Board. I did not mention socialism at all, but you did. Let me help you out: millennials are intrigued by libertarian economic ideals and liberal social ideals.

Back to race, which my comment was about, they don't care about race.

Thanks Jake. I stand corrected. They do not care about race and are tired of that card being played. ;)

White people that aren't looking for a handout in life don't like the Democraps.

This is especially true of white males with jobs.

We don't like liberal scum pandering to "minority" groups blaming their mistakes on white people especially white males.

Democraps have made a fatal mistake aligning themselves with pussy white male queers and minority groups believing they are the majority and money makers in this country.

According to the exit polls the House Democrats got 38% of the white vote.

Obama got 39% of the white vote in 2012.

And to add to that, in 2010 the House Democrats got 37% of the white vote,

so contrary to suggestions from the poster above, the Democrats actually gained white vote from the 2010 to the 2014 midterms, albeit only a small amount.

Nor did they lose black votes from 2010 to 2014.

Has the Democrat Party lost White Voters? The data suggests the Democrat Party has largely lost White male voters....maybe forever. Romney captured almost 2/3rd of the white male vote. Now White women seem to be trending away from the Dems in a big way. There is an excellent article by the Associated Press regarding the movement of whites away from the Democrat Party.

A key quote: "Democratic Senate candidates lost ground among white voters by an average of 10 points compared with 2008. White voters abandoned Democrats in droves in places with heated contests as well as those without much action."

Kay Hagan got just 33% of the white vote.
Mark Warner 37% of the white vote.
Mary Landrieu 18% of the white vote.

Even in blue Illinois: "Democratic Senator Dick Durbin captured 43 percent of the white vote in his successful bid for re-election, that's down 18 points from his support among whites in 2008."

This is terrible news for the Democrats. So the question is out there: Have the Democrats lost the white vote?

Yep.....you are correct. The white vote is beginning to slide away from the Dems. Again.....not a good trend. And remember...the erosion is gradual...but has been happening since 2006.

In this case...the trend is not to the Democrats advantage.

According to the Dems....they need 40% of the white vote and 90% of the black vote to win elections.

The data you provided underscores why the Dems lost so badly this election cycle.

Per your data the Dems only got 37% of the white vote and 89% of the black vote.

Both have been trending downward since 2006. Again....not a good sign for Democrats.

No....you cherry picked the last two mid-terms. Per the data I provided the trend has been going down since 2006. Plus....per CNN's data a 1 point difference in the last two mid-terms is not statistically significant.

The trend is downward since 2006. That cannot be argued. Also, the fact that the white vote for Dems is under the key threshold of 40% for Dems to win elections can also not be disputed.

I compared 2 midterms that the GOP won. You're comparing a big Dem win (2006) to a big GOP win (2014). Of course the numbers are going to shift.

You might want to note, while you're noting things, that white voters were 79% of the vote in 2006,

but 77% of the vote in 2010, and 75% of the vote in 2014.

If you want a trend to focus on, focus on that.

NYc has a better analysis than WQ, BUT . . . the point is that the GOP is aware that it cannot win without reaching out to non-whites and minorities.

Dems got cocky and stepped on their collective dick.

We have two years to convince them that we can can govern rather than obstruct.
