Has the GOP blown it on the Jan 6 committee?

The former guy has again put the GQP in a lousy situation: They can't risk angering him by backing the Jan 6 Committee, and their cowardice may make things even worse for them.

At least with an even-numbered, bipartisan committee they could have controlled some of what took place and what was released. But if Pelosi puts together a select committee, and they find irrefutable evidence that harms the GQP, the Trumpsters will just have to bend over and take it.

Oh well. Another example of what happens when you choose to sell your soul to a weak man who cares nothing about you.

Embarrassed Republican Max Boot (now most likely a an evil Hitler commie in the eyes of the cult) makes good points here, including gung ho the GQP was with its Benghazi "investigations":
My guess is Mitch and Charlie McCarthy would rather be in the position they've taken where they will say the Commission is a political stunt, and they agree Jan 6 was "just terrible" but Antifa and Blm pose dangers the dems refuse to address
It IS a political stunt, the idea that there needs to be a Congressional Commission surrounding this incident is ludicrous and nothing more than a thinly disguised attempt at a partisan attack using taxpayer funds.

We already have law enforcement agencies that can handle the investigations and prosecutions in this case, Congress Critters need to knock off the attempts at grandstanding, get out of the way and LET THEM DO THEIR JOB.

We send Congress Critters to Washington to act as legislators not to live out their out their Dick Tracy fantasies on our dime.
It would not be a politcal stunt for congress to make their own investigation as to how THEY were attacked by a mob, and how to prevent future attacks. But it would not work out well for gopers, and they know it. So they've attempted to "broaden" it to include other mobs that had nothing to do with congress.

It's not going to pass the senate.

McConnell and McCarthy don't want to discuss Trump.

You just contradicted yourself and ONCE AGAIN, we have LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES that can handle this just fine, why on Earth would we want to waste time and resources having Congress "investigate" this, when anybody that's not a complete partisan robot can see that it's just an exercise in grandstanding by an organization that is the VICTIM in this case.

Why the resistance to letting the relevant law enforcement agencies handle it? Especially given the fact that they have MOUNTAINS of evidence to work with.
Dems are not the victim. They are the beneficiaries, and they are trying to capitalize on it as much as they can.

What have they "blown?" The Dims plan to put the entire Republican party on trial. This is a witch hunt. Any Republican who supports it will get his ass handed to him in the next election.

They have blown their chance to show themself sane to the voters.

Nope, they are too crazy to do whats right and come 2022 they'll be answering for that to the voters.
ROFL! What Democrats are doing is "sane?" Agreeing to a witch hunt of their own party is the definition of "insane."

Yes dumbass, SANE.

Americans widely reject MAGA's January 6th attempt to take over Congress to stop certification of an election as an insane, criminal act.

By Republicans refusing to go along with investigation of this crime, they out themselfs as enablers of this dangerous movement.
They reject the violence, but not the purpose of the protest.

Not going along with a witch hunt only shows that you believe in justice rather than witch hunts.

Let me ask you this.......do you think Republicans should be complicit in yet another Orange Man Bad witch-hunt?
They should be honest.

You won't understand that.
Anybody being honest knows there's no need for another Mexicrat concocted "committee" to do nothing more than hype the media sheep and to loot the American taxpayer.

We are the ones being prosecuted, jackass. Why shouldn't we be scared? Why wouldn't the target of any witch hunt be scared?

The attack was on Congress
Who better to investigate
Ummm.. being directly involved in the case would Congress the WORST organization to investigate it, why do you think we force law enforcement officers to recuse themselves from investigating cases that involve them personally?

We have PROFESSIONAL law enforcements agencies that can handle this just fine, for example the FBI, ever heard of them? apparently, they're surprisingly good at investigating crimes.

It is more than a legal prosecution, it is a political one.
Congress needs to clean its house
Yes, that's the problem... IT IS A POLITICAL ONE, which are only good if you're a fan of Banana Republics.

We're supposed to be a Nation of Laws, unfortunately our two major political crime families want to twist us into a Nation of Political Power At Any Cost and they've created legions of partisan lemmings to constantly try and justify this nonsense.

My primary issues with this commission are one, I suspect it will be less an independent inquiry and more of a partisan Spanish Inquisition, and we'll waste millions more in tax dollars so politicians can grand stand before the cameras. Two, most of these people calling for this commission didn't give a shit one year ago when angry mobs were marauding through our city streets threatening our homes and our personal safety, destroying our businesses, and resulted in the deaths of roughly 20 people nationwide, plus a 30 year old Las Vegas cop who is now a quadriplegic. However, the moment that these same people in Congress were personally threatened suddenly they are outraged and up in arms and demanding justice for themselves. I guess the rest of us didn't deserve that? Funny how that works and how many people are letting their feelings of the former president assist in perpetuating this ruse.
