House Passes MORE Act Which Decriminalizes Marijuana

Who thought we'd ever see this day? It is long past due.

The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act passed the House 220-204 with a sprinkling of Republican support.

It goes now to the Senate, where Chuck Schumer and two others are already crafting the Senate version.

Legalization of marijuana is extremely popular among Americans: a 2021 Pew Research Center poll found that 91% agreed that either medical or recreational use should be allowed.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has proposed his own bill that would legalize marijuana, and has committed to moving forward with it in April.

This is NOT an April Fool's joke.

What great news. I had turned off all my news app notifications while on vacation so I did not even know this was a thing till I saw this thread.

It is about time. It is a true crime that the VA cannot prescribe marijuana for Vets that would benefit from it, that are in fact already legally using it in states where it is legal.

If not legalize it, decriminalize it

Stop spending so much law enforcement resources to investigate, arrest and incarcerate drug offenders
Legalize it, let the states manufacture it, that way it is less likely to be cut with dangerous chemicals or other drugs such as fentany.

How do you explain states like California that legalized and taxed pot years ago?

Pot has been legal in Vermont since 2018.

Federal is what we are talking about, not states.

Federal is what we are talking about, not states. Its been legalized in many states for a long time.

Ohhhh. I thought you were talking about what works? How would federal legalization change the deleterious effects of state legalization? Is this a case of when something doesn't work, do more of it?

Sorry bout that,

1. I see this action over the years of making marijuana illegal has only been white clean cut men in suits, holier than thou type, punishing the long hair hippy type, some killing, some taking their shit, and throwing into a jail for 50 years.
2. Basic crime against humanity.
3. Its been nothing more.

Or let us grow it in the backyard.

Oh that's right, there's no way to tax it. dammit. No wonder they don't want it to pass. They want that fucking money.

You mean like the University of DeVry?
I don't get what you're trying to prove here.

There is a shit ton of pot smoking at major universities throughout the world.

I went to the most conservative university on the fucking planet. (TexasA&M). there was plenty of pot smoking there.

It seems like people are just naïve about how many people use cannabis. It's a lot.

That said, I have never used it before. That still should not allow government to decide who gets to grow and use it.
