It's not a question of if the dems lose congressional seats in 2010, it's just a question of how bad a beating it will be. I voted for Obama and I'm still glad he won. However, as we've seen so much in recent years, one party domination is bad for the country. I think more and more people are realizing this. I've always believed that when power is split, they usually come together to take care of the things that really matter. But when one party controls everything, boondoggles rule the day.

So, how bad will it be? Is it possible that they could actually lose the majority in the Senate? It's less likely that they would lose their huge majority in the house, but wouldn't that be something?

I honestly don't know if it will be a huge beating, even if Obama falls flat on his face.... the fact is a LOT of the DEM supporters do not care about how things go for the country or whether we are following how our government was set up... it is about the cult of personality and the promise of entitlements... I fully believe we could be in the economic shitter and we could be bleeding socialistic programs out of our ears.. and a lot of the blind faithful will STILL vote for the DEMs

I think that the REPs are poised to take some back... but I do not think it is some mega swing

Relax Mani. The Dems have been in charge for less than 2 months and they've accomplished a lot already. And nothing they have done has been worse than what the GOP have done or would have done. Heck, the GOP insist on staying the course. Do you agree with that? The course where wages go low and we start a war with Iran? Have you forgotten already how bad the GOP was the last 8 years? This is what happened after Clinton's 8 years. People like you forgot how bad Daddy Bush was and you voted for his son. Things were good and you didn't think he could fuck it up. And he couldn't have, unless it was on purpose.

And if the GOP's plan means we all have to lose everything before things go back to normal, fuck that and fuck them.

Yesterday I was hearing stories about families who are struggling, and then I thought, "I can't believe that the GOP has the balls to say it is those people's fault and not the bankers and corporations who have sold America out! They emptied the treasury and sent jobs overseas.

We would never undo what Bush/Tom Delay did in 6 years if the GOP controlled the Senate or the House. And imagine how much more pork we would have had to give them to help pass the stimulus bill if they had control of either house.

So yes, I think it is time to give the GOP more power. :cuckoo:

I agree that the GOP in control fucked things up royally. But I don't think giving the Dems unchecked power is the best solution. Like I said, I think things are best when power is split and nothing gets done unless it has at least some support from both sides.

If Obma is successful. If the Dems don't become Diva Republicans. If the Republicans continue with their "just say no" policy and can't come up with anything but tax cuts -

They will continue to lose.

You got to be kidding me. You guys voted for Bush despite how things were going for the country.

And you guys are spinning the facts. You pick and choose what the founders said. You heed their warnings about big government, but ignore their warnings about corporations.

Perfect example is when Rush was WRONG about the Life Liberty and Persuit of Happiness. The Preamble

In his speech to the conservative CPAC conference Saturday, Rush Limbaugh butchered the text of the U.S. Constitution, claiming it contained a phrase actually found in the Declaration of Independence.

This was not a random "mistake." Rush's misstatements are deliberate and purposeful. The rightwing has a major dilemma: insisting on a literal interpretation of the Constitution to make the case against government action.

What does the Preamble say?

(establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for a common defense, promote the general welfare, ensure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity),

So now do you and Rush want to debate that the government should not do these things? Bring it on!!!

And if I actually bought a lottery ticket, and won the jackpot, I'd be rich.

Shogun already challenged Rush to come debate the issues here at USMB. But so far Rush has declined. I can only assume that is because he's a big, fat pussy.

In the past, you would be right. But look at the GOP now. They deserve NOTHING.

I was hoping that the new Republicans that enter the national spotlight would be better/different, but then they pull out people like Bobbi Jindal and Palin?

But at least we have two years to right a bunch of wrongs.

PS. Everytime in history that one party has control of all three houses, the majority power always looses seats in the midterms. I hope history doesn't repeat itself.

I think the dems pick up more in 2010, but we'll see. It really depends on if the economy turns and most people say it will in about a year.

The republicans have more seats at stake in the senate in 2010, and a few republicans plan to retire. Their position for a comeback is poor.

It's going to be a slaughter. Millions are up in arms over what the Democrats in Congress have been approving, not to mention the fact that they voted themselves a raise during a recession. Most will not get reelected.

I think it depends on how well the Republicans manage to fool you.

Well.. if they do 10% as good of a job as the DEMs did fooling everyone in 2006 and 2008.. then they should gain seats

I was thinking that too, Cali. The Dems wont have to defend the seats that they won when they took the Senate until 2012. To me, that seems like the earliest time we'll see a Republican comeback though I think it will be more like 2014.

Undoubtable if the economy continues to tank, the Dems will lose voters.

It would help the Republicans tremendously if they had a plan other than tax cuts and telling people who are concerned about losign their homes this year that they are losers who deserve to lose it all, though, don't you think?

When the Republican party stops being the SCROOGITARIAN Party, I suspect that Americans will give them another chance.

Should I be flattered that you think I hold their fate in my hands?

The people up in arms are those who have already given their souls to the right or those who hear the lies right now from the right wing spinmiesters.

All that shit will flow back into their laps if Obama turns this around.

This is true. I am still waiting to hear from the Limbaugh camp. So far, nothing.

God I hope you are right.

I can't see everyone forgiving and forgetting in 2010, but 2012, well, American voters are not that bright and have very short memories.

But also keep in mind that the new young voters turned out in droves last year. Do you ever miss voting after the first time you voted? I didn't. Once you vote, you always vote. And these kids are not feeling Rush or Steele. Plus, they will get all the kids that weren't old enough to vote last year to vote.

Republicans are a very small minority, as they should be. They only represent a very small percentage of Americans.

It is going to be hard for Republicans to lose the image of being square and uptight.

PS. Remember years ago figuring out how much you would have to save to retire? And how many years it would take?

Has anyone done that lately? I'm scared to even do the math. I fear it will tell me I can't save enough or that it will take me to age 100 to retire. :(

The misconception that will be held by many is that when the economy does eventually right itself, it will be BECAUSE of Obama's actions... this is inherently a false assumption..

The economy WILL turn around... whether hindered by Obama's plans and actions or not... when it does, it will not necessarily be as robustly so as it would without his huge governmental intervention... but you will hear the moonbats screaming from the hilltops shouting Obama's praises... while completely ignorant of what is actually happening
