The answer is.... spoiler alert... it depends on who you ask.

What is the metric? Should Great Britain be one country, or four countries? What about that tiny naval fort in international waters somebody made into a country. And why are the two lads in the video up in a tree?

I need to know! Planning Olympic opening ceremonies ain't easy.

Here's a video that will make things clear (as mud)...

There are NOT 195 countries
Hosted by "Map Men" Jay Foreman and Marc Cooper-Jones.

What are your guesses and why?

Are we counting Palestine and Vatican city or not?

This is a thread with a semi-serious question with a humorous video link. Take it for what it's worth.

This question is posed to the general audience. What do you consider a country? If you consider one or both of your examples a country, feel free to say so. I'm just curious of people's thoughts.

One is, the other uses it's wealth to act like it is.

So there are 194 countries.

You want a list?

Usually it's about sovereign countries. Somewhere like Taiwan then causes complications because Taiwan claims to be China and China claims to be the same China. They just occupy different parts of it.

Because the UK is a sovereign nation; England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales are not sovereign countries. That's why the UK is considered one country and not four.

I thought it was 187.
Anyhow I think it is unfair that our country, consisting of 50 states, is 1 but Arabs 50 states are considered 50 in the UN.
Now that there is an EU should countries in it remove their UN representatives and be represented by a single EU Rep?

It shouldn't be so difficult to understand.
United States: one nation.
United Kingdom: one nation.

Because Arab states are separate entities, with different governments, currencies, armed forces and so on. If follow your logic here, all English-speaking countries should have 1 representative.

The EU may have 1 common representative in the future, if the European Union will become a federation as the US is. Though, it also may be that European nations will turn into squabbling blocks again and there will be no EU whatsoever.
