The descent of US/North Korea “crisis” to the level of schoolyard taunts should be remembered as one of the most bizarre, dangerous, and disgraceful chapters in US foreign policy history.

President Trump, who holds the lives of millions of Koreans and Americans in his hands, has taken to calling the North Korean dictator “rocket man on a suicide mission.” Why? To goad him into launching some sort of action to provoke an American response? Maybe the US president is not even going to wait for that. We remember from the Tonkin Gulf false flag that the provocation doesn’t even need to be real. We are in extremely dangerous territory and Congress for the most part either remains asleep or is cheering on the sabre-rattling.

Now we have North Korean threats to detonate hydrogen bombs over the Pacific Ocean and US threats to “totally destroy” the country.

We are told that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un is a “madman.” That’s just what they said about Saddam, Gaddafi, Assad, and everyone else the neocons target for US military action. We don’t need to be fans of North Korea to be skeptical of the war propaganda delivered by the mainstream media to the benefit of the neocons and the military industrial complex.

Where are the cooler heads in Washington to tone down this war footing?

Making matters worse, there is very little understanding of the history of the conflict. The US spends more on its military than the next ten or so countries combined, with thousands of nuclear weapons that can destroy the world many times over. Nearly 70 years ago a US-led attack on Korea led to mass destruction and the death of nearly 30 percent of the North Korean population. That war has not yet ended...

------------------------------------- i think that one of the big sticking points is Trumps pledge to never allow the norks to have nukes . If i am correct about that pledge then Trump has got to undo the work of repub / rino / dem Presidents policy over the last 30 or more years . Maybe Trump doesn't want his kids and Grandkids or mine and yours living under the nuke threat of the 'norks' Dschrutes .

Nice read...although history has taught the outcome of 'hugging it out' and of 'appeasement'. It worked so well for France and Europe in regards to dealing with Hitler. :p

Stalin okay'd the North Korean invasion of South Korea in 1950. Thinking the US would not care to defend the South. He was wrong.

Perhaps Trump should abandon his 'gunslinger' approach and adopt a more peaceful, tolerant, and 'appeasing' method, one demonstrated by ... let's say, Democrat President John F Kennedy. He was extremely open to Russia having nukes on Cuba, just minutes' flight time from anywhere in the US. He was very tolerant, laid back, and did not escalate the situation into a possible war....

Oh wait....that's right - yes he did. He stepped up strong and told Russia and Cuba if they were going to try to put nukes on Cuba he would blow the ships out of the water before they ever got to Cuba and the nations would / could go to war.

They just don't make Democrats / Democrat President like that any more....what a shame.

Well according to Maxine Waters, Russia and Putin have already invaded KOREA. :p

I normally agree with the Dr. Paul. Probably 99% of the time. In this situation, I think cool heads are fine, but let Japan and South Korea handle this problem. It's an arms race that we have kept those two countries from participating. The best help we can give Japan and South Korea is to turn them loose. We save big-time $$$ and they get to negotiate directly or kick the shit out of NK.

Good for everyone.

...and can you imagine unleashing Japan on NK?

If you think Bushido is dead, you are sadly mistaken. Japan would kick the fuck dog shit out of NK, China, Russia, the entire fucking middle east. Hell, they would give us a pretty good fight. They don't fuck around.

I know "times change" but many years ago, I served around some South
Korean Marines. Nobody wanted to fuck with them.

I suspect North Korea will be coming to the negotiating table in the near future. But we really should leave South Korea. 70yrs of occupation is just way too long. We have to end this Empire-Building phase we're currently in. We're not supposed to be running around the world dictating how other countries should live.

Our Founding Fathers warned about the dangers of Imperialist Empire. They knew Empires always fall. And we're set ourselves up for quite a fall. We're a shocking $21 Trillion in Debt and spread way too thin around the world. It's time to dramatically scale things back. We should start by disengaging from the Middle East and leaving South Korea. Time to come home.

sounds like you MIGHT be ok with the 'norks' getting 'nukes' eh ?? I think that i heard President Trump say that 'norks' or 'iran' getting nukes in not acceptable Dschrute .
