I cannot pretend to give a wet rat's ass what Zimbabweans are doing with regard to their domestic politics. Were the country in question one that had some sort of material role on the world stage and that affects the U.S., I'd care. As goes Zimbabwe, so long as the situation doesn't fester to the point that ISIS can usurp control of the place in lieu of those it lost in Syria and Iraq, I don't much care.

This is what I have read:

1. The Army has long supported President Mugabe's brutal (and often deadly) repressive measures.

2. The Army has turned against him because:

a. He wanted his wife to be the next president.

b. He dismissed an official whom the Army likes. (This official used to head the security forces. His nickname is "The Crocodile.")

3. Zimbabweans are expecting genuine democracy.

4. Some observers say, however, they will just get Mugabe 2.0.
