I don't really understand the Dems' "need," for lack of a better word, for a national $15 min wage.

So corporate farms can get billions but working stiffs shouldn't be able to make enough to survive on?

I'll say it again with smaller words for you. The left doesn't want "working stiffs" to be able to feed themselves. They want the government doing it.

I don't doubt or disagree with NYC or other urban areas, esp progressive ones, logically wanting the raise. Or the need of workers. But in rural states, min wage jobs sometimes just supplement rural life of raising and growing one's own food. It will kill jobs, because the people who buy retail goods are the same ones working the jobs. Employers will consolidate gas stations, small grocery's and maybe even Wal-Marts. It just seems typical leftwing elitism to think places like Ala and Miss and WV can't figure out their own state economies.
The minimum wage has not kept up with inflation.

.
Workers earning the $7.25 federal minimum wage 10 years ago were being paid the inflation-adjusted equivalent of $8.70 an hour in this year's dollars. In other words, workers now earning the federal minimum wage are paid 17% less than they would have been paid 10 years ago.

But a new survey out this week shows more Americans support raising the federal minimum wage than they did before the pandemic took hold.

Seven out of 10 people said they’d support that, and that support has grown since the pandemic began, mostly among Republicans.

Before COVID-19 hit, 48 percent of people who identify as Republicans said they wanted a higher minimum wage. Now nearly 62 percent of GOP supporters said that’s a good idea.

I'm not against using a min wage to affect the labor market in states by setting floor. but in a place like Miss, if counter help at a quick stop gets $2400 a mo that's going to end a lot of quick stops

The Democrats want to raise the minimum wage to the point where employers will choose to automate their businesses, reduce staff, or eliminate low-wage workers altogether. We're already seeing this in the fast food and hospitality industries.

The Democrats' goal is, of course, to drive low-wage workers to unemployment and then onto welfare, where they can be more easily controlled. If the government is paying for your food rather than your employer, wouldn't you be more "willing" to go along with things like mandatory vaccines, only "approved" content on your social media, not questioning what your kids are being taught in school, etc.?

if you are a "working stiff" and the best you can do is a minimum wage job, you made some serious mistakes in your life.

Yeah, like not demanding the government stop the businesses from shipping the jobs overseas.

Do you know WHY businesses ship jobs overseas?

Greedy bastards.

AL, MS and WV are the poorest states in the country because they rednecks who run them can't figure out their own economies. They have a bunch of stupid white people who are happy living in shit so long as they are living just slightly better than the darkies. Ironically, what props these states up are shitloads of government assistance and government pork barrel projects.
Yet those states are fiscally stable compared to California, illinois, new Jersey ...

It's typical leftwing elitism that nobody is capable of taking care of themselves, hence their constant push for a nanny state.
well I said it should be more of a state issue. I don't think people at the bottom of a wage market have much bargaining power.

You'd be surprised. And they're usually not bargaining all by themselves. There are quite a few companies that could pay minimum wage, but choose to pay above it for public relations reasons, among other things.

$15 an hour for a 16 year old burger flipper is absurd.
How about for the guy who picks up your garbage?

Fixes your car?

Does your plumbing?
All of these people make more than 15 dollars an hour you twit.

For the record, Arizona doesn't have a $15/hour minimum wage. The median income for garbage collectors in Arizona is $19/hour; for mechanics, $20.50/hour; for plumbers, $27/hour.

If leftists really want to pretend they're pushing for a $15 minimum wage to help those people, we've already got them covered.

The minimum wage has not kept up with inflation.

And it never will. Minimum wage is the epitome of a dog chasing its tail. And it does just as much good. Nonetheless, many dogs seem to enjoy the habit.

This same argument was probably going on in pre civil war days. Right winger say 'hells bells, if the darkies get set free they'll starve. Boss man barely making it now as it is'.

Too bad for your self-congratulatory fantasy that it was Democrats who championed slavery.

Oh, and you probably don't know this because of your whole not-having-a-job thing, but there's an enormous difference between slavery and voluntary employment.

But thanks for trying to shoehorn your talking points into the conversation, however irrelevant and inappropriate to the topic they are.

If we tie minimum wage to inflation wouldn't it eventually be everyone in the united states end up making minimum wage?

It is nothing more than corruption for filthy ass politicians to set wage rates.

The asshole Union bosses pay well for the corrupt government shitheads to make laws that get them more money.

The US is a very corrupt country.

You've not had your car repaired or any plumbing done in many decades, have you?

As for the guy picking up garbage, he's probably doesn't have a stellar record of great decisions, does he?

Actually, where I live, that's a pretty good decision for someone who's not overburdened with skills and experience. Good pay, excellent benefits, job security . . . Granted, it doesn't smell terrific, but the trucks do most of the heavy lifting, while the garbage collector mostly sits in the cab and listens to tunes.

"medium wage" means some make more and a lot make less. This is news to you?

Yep, minimum wage used to be 25 cents an hour in today's wages it would be $23 an hour

Those who seek to mandate the raising of the minimum wage to $15 an hour are those who believe families are supposed to live off salaries they make working at Fast-Food chains and working 'Summer' / 'Seasonal' / 'Temp' jobs. A minimum wage was NEVER supposed to be high enough to support a family.

Last time I checked, the government hadn't passed a law forcing anyone to give Jeff Bezos that income. That would be the point you missed because you're either brain-damaged or congenitally dishonest. Or both.

Maybe the Dems “need” is to try to bring you flyover people into the 21st Century with the rest of us.

Maybe the Dems need to mind their own business and stop trying to tell total strangers how to live their lives.

Wait, there's no "maybe" about it.

This sort of pompous, tone-deaf sanctimony is exactly what is wrong with leftists. You are so convinced that you are "improving" things, that any evidence you AREN'T improving it is met with, "Well, we're doing it anyway, and you just need to be forced to like it."

It's not for you to "bring us" anywhere, shithead. You're welcome to the coastal urban pestholes you think are "the shining future"; just keep them to yourselves and stop trying to force them on us.
Stay backward and ignorant.

If the alternative is to be you in any way, shape, or form, this is not a problem.

Again, your "intelligent future" looks a great deal like a dystopian nightmare, so we'll pass. Keep it to yourself.

Some companies will be able to afford $15 an hour MW and still be profitable. Most cannot and will either invest in automation, reduce staff, or hire illegals to survive. Many will go bankrupt.
Maybe that's why Biden is going to flood our borders with Illegals again.
