I think we all agree that government tax payer money should have nothing to do with college or "higher education". Correct?

I think the investment in a better educated citizen is worth it. Certainly more than the congressional junkets taken to tropical paradises or the bloated DoD budget.

Pell Grants are the basic foundation for most financial aid. I don't think those need to be removed.

Thanks Zinc and Winter!

But it's a reasonable question that deserves an answer. Is there an answer? And further to that, are Americans actually aware of how their taxes are being spent?

Overall, the lesson that needs to be learned is that the main reason for having a country is that the common cause is served by the advantages of unity.

Spend the money but ensure that the spending is equitable and not all directed at the supply side.

If Americans come to understand the basics, they would probably be confused over which political party they should support!

It's a question of supply side economics vs. demand side economics. It's not a question of capitalism vs. socialism.

It's a matter of accepting capitalism that incluldes socially responsible government.

Why should they? Pay the tuition. Take out a legit loan. Get a scholarship. Or don't go. Easy. If what they offer is so great it will be worth the investment.

While I do not agree with Biden's attempts to cancel student loans, I do believe a highly subsidized, but also highly regulated, post high school education program should be implemented.

I also think that schools should be heavily regulated on how much money they can spend on sports.

I remember taking a tour with my daughter to the university she went to and it seemed most of the science and math classes were pretty dated. Old equipment, chairs I couldn't sit in for 5 minutes without throwing out my back; then they took us to the stadium. The facility looked like it was from the future.

I always wondered how much of my daughters tuition subsidized these stadium complexes and sports related scholarships.

Dude. In big schools .. the sports pay for themselves. It's not tax money. Good sports (football) pay for the others. Everything else subsided but football. Some schools have basketball. Most is all subsidized though. All women's are. Last years women's basketball may have been the best though. Just for reference only: Ohio State Football, mens Basketball and Wrestling finance themselves.

It's even worse than that.

Good point. That had not occurred to me...which is kind of embarrassing because it makes obvious sense. Thanks.

That said, it seems that profiting from sports is not as common as you assert.

"Even as commercial revenue streams have grown for top-billing football and men’s basketball, athletic expenditures exceed revenues at the vast majority of schools."

What did she go to college for?

you forgot the part about how, if gummit is weaponized / politicized as it certainly is today,

the only ones who will benefit from gummit $$$ being given to universities will be

SHOCKING!

Those who agree w/ the political ideology of gummit. They will be the only ones to get passing grades also

Replace That Plantation With Highly Paid Professional Training

Those requirements frustrate the economic growth that would come from investing in the most talented. Try doing it with demanding that athletes sacrifice and all you'll get is generic college teams that would be pathetic competing against the present players who are rewarded for their talent. The few who belong in college must get the same paid-up tuition and high allowance that richkids get, or we must make sure they never graduate.

College should not be a choice; the students must be chosen or America will suffer a Brain Drain. Only the retarded and slavish can possibly believe that getting a job by going four years without a job will get us anywhere. The ones who are cheated the most have the most ability to tear this system down. Beware if Mensa ever mans up.

It's even worse than that.
Indentured Servitude College Is for Teenagers Who Are Afraid to Grow Up

Just like college football is a free minor league for the NFL, college education is a free minor league for the corporations. Any country that pays students for their grades will lead this century's world economy. Our economy deserves to collapse if superior minds aren't immediately rewarded as much as superior athletes are, from childhood on.

The real question is: Why should a business be bailed out with taxpayers' money but not students?

Consider too that the shareholders in the business had taken the money and run!
No, that isn't the real question.

Why should anyone be bailed out?

Why should anyone pay for someone else to get a ticket on the gravy train?

So the point of having a country is so we can all loot each other?
