Madison was one of our worst Presidents

Almost lost the country

Disagree. While not a great president, he is not one of worst. The country was never in danger of being lost and the end of Madison's term is known as the beginning of the "Era of Good Feeling" .... a period of peace, prosperity and unprecedented growth.

True, the War of 1812 was somewhat troublesome, but the War Hawks in Congress (Clay, Calhoun, etc) forced that war upon an unwilling Madison.

Besides, Dolly introduced ice cream to the White House, and that achievement alone vaults Madison over Polk.

Jake: ""Political philosopher, distruster of large government but willing to use the powers when necessary, would have nothing to do with libertarianism or the far right's reactionary madness" is immediately proven by the lack of context in Oddball's "Says the whack that Madison would have accurately identified as a Torrie and enabler of King George" and Frank's 'Madison is a Reactionary!!' -- Jake Starkey"

You two are a couple of goofy guys

Madison screwed the pooch on The War of 1812. No standing army, no treasury, no Navy and he thinks he can get away with declaring war on the most powerful military in the world
He invaded Canada with little more than glorified militia. Had his capital burned right in front of his face

Madison was president, yes. However, much of the desire to go to war can be blamed on Henry Clay and his fellow "war hawks" that wanted to destroyed Indian power in the northwest of the and south of the Ohio River, as well as take Canada if possible.

The Canadians have always kicked American ass when it comes to us telling them what to do.

Who was Commander in Chief back then?

But they did so politely, eh?

If Madison were alive today, he'd be a ZOMBIE!

The Walking Founding Father!

Judging by his collaboration in the Federalist Papers he would probably work for Fox news and manage a tobacco farm on the side. His eye for the pretty and young ladies (hello Dolly) would probably result in marrying a Hollywood actress. He would probably lose the wig though.

Fox Noise would tar and feather him as a damn liburrul.

What you forget, and what outweighs all of that is this... ICE CREAM

HOMEMADE ICE CREAM

On a more serious note... The militia invading Canada has some important Constitutional and 2nd Amend issues which would take several pages to explain... suffice to say the War of 1812 was a primary reason for the move away from "a well regulated militia" to a standing army.

You need to can the pop-culture bigotry. Fox is home to conservatives and liberals. How many conservatives does MSNBC employ? Madison would fit right in to the Fox network.

Sylvester would be sputtering all over his own suit. Steve Duncy would be inventing new dumb looks. Hell, they might let Glenn Beck come back with a blackboard to demonstrate how Madison and his gang of liberal thugs are undermining the aristocracy. And Bill-O goes off on a new religious jihad as soon as he interviews Madison about The God.

No child, Madison would in no way "fit in" at Fox Noise. I'm sure he'd be shaken to see that his country has come to this.

Christian religion? Is that what bothers you? It's getting pretty nutty out there in liberal land. Listen to yourself. O'Reilly treats Juan Williams with respect and Hannety is good friends with Bob Beckel. How many conservatives does MSNBC tolerate?

Did Madison become more liberal over the years because of Jefferson's influence?
Was the era of good feelings a result of the demise of the first conservative political party?
