Why wasn't Reagan impeached and removed from office over Iran/Contra.

That was FAR worse.

Clinton was impeached for lying under oath, not for a BJ in the oval office.

So goes the myth.

The reality is, they were asking him if he had sex with an intern, and defined sex as coitus.

It was wholly inappropriate for them to ask this and way outside the scope of the whitewater investigation.

But even so..using their parameters..Clinton did not lie.

But they went ahead and impeached on a "gotcha".

It was a despicable abuse of power.

If I recall correctly the republicans were prepared to impeach the president over Whitewater. When no evidence was found the special prosecuter should have been released. Instead they claimed Clinton was responsible for Vince Foster's suicide. That was a dead end also. Again the special prosecuter should have been released but he wasn't because he next had to look in Travelgate. Once again nothing was found and the special prosecuter should have been shut down but he wasn't. That led to Filegate which also came up empty. It was then that they blind sided Clinton with lewinsky. He was blind sided because the hearing that was taking place was about claims made by Jennifer Flowers.
What we saw from the republicans was a perfect example of a political hanging. It was at that time I became disgusted with the gop and their way of doing business.

Your ability to re-write history is amazing given that it only happened a couple of months ago.
The bill to fund the government had to be passed in both houses and signed by the president. THE BILL WAS PASSED IN THE SENATE AND WAS TABLED BY BOEHNER IN THE HOUSE. IT NEVER CAME UP FOR A VOTE!!!!! When it did finally come up for a vote a rider had been added to it that would have killed ACA. The president asked for a clean bill (a bill to fund the government with no riders) and the chicken shit house refused to do so.
That is what shut the government down.
