Is America coming apart?

"Is America....?"

BY LIBERAL DESIGN...

...Saul Alynski would be proud of his 'disciples', Barry and Hillary.

...Wasn't it a place of slavery, segregation, then institutional racism designed to keep people down?
Yeah, but only as it pertains to a very small fraction of the population - the part that really didn't count for much...

I guess a lot of people managed to ignore the reality of the country and present themselves with a nice view. Seems to still be the case.

Depends upon whose Reality we're talking about... the small minority for whom an Alternate Reality (above) is true, or the Rest of Us...

For the Rest of Us, everything is just fine, and all is right with the world, by comparison... life is good.

As long as Reaganism rolls on, yes.
Still waiting for that trickle down are you?

Trickle down means when you buy something, the purchase trickles down the pipeline of people who manufactured, transported and sold you the product. Everyone benefits even if in a small way. Regardless if it's a bottle of shampoo or a new car, think of all the people along the way that manufactured each component as part of their jobs. Lower income tax means folks have more disposable income and that drives the economy. If you're still confused, ask your mommy to use words you can understand.

Well for some it was fine before, and it is fine now. For some it was rubbish before and rubbish after. However the thread is about America and not just some parts of America.

In the 1700s the South and the North were at each other's throats. In the 1800s they were at each other's throats, in the 1900s they were at each other's throats and they still are.

For blacks it was bad and for many it still is.
For Native Americans it was bad and for many it still is.

But for the white folk who controlled everything in the past and made themselves a nice little home by making sure others were below them, they've still got their nice little home and they still make sure others are below them.

The problem comes when the govt starts giving the rich money in an effort to make trickle down, and it doesn't work because the rich hoard their money.

When you have people in 'poverty' that are overweight, that is not poverty. That is lack of education concerning nutrition, and lack of forethought in buying food. Yes, there are people in poverty in our nation. But not that many. The primary cause of poverty in this nation is ignorance of what is available in the form of education and real work. Drugs are the secondary cause of poverty.

As for the middle class, as an upper middle class earner, I can tell you that the life I live is one of wealth compared to that my grandparents lived. Yes, we can do better in this nation for all of our people, that want to do better for themselves. But what we have right now so far exceeds what we had in the 1950's that anyone wanting to go back to those days needs psychiatric care.

That America seems to have disappeared and in the words of George Packer, today’s middle class seems to have slipped into a state of permanent poverty.

With the exception of the homeless, nobody in the U.S. lives in poverty.

The rich are totally bloated. What the economy needs now is tax cuts for the nonrich for DEMAND. DUH. see sig pp1 for trickle down results: the ruin of the middle class and huge poverty.

America once had a strong middle class, sound institutions, a real sense of community and was a place where ordinary, decent people actually could get ahead, especially with an honest work ethic.

That America seems to have disappeared and in the words of George Packer, today’s middle class seems to have slipped into a state of permanent poverty.

Is America coming apart?
Once Trump loses we should be better off. If the republicans lose the House and Senate, America will be on a fast track to actually repair itself. I don't have a whole lot of faith in democrats, but with republicans out of the picture America might be fine.

why do you want dictatorial socialism? that's what you will get from HRC. why do you want a government that runs every aspect of your life?

"...I solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic..."

Good luck, terrorist drone :eusa_snooty:

Not even the founding fathers would support the constitution after its abysmal failure.

It's all relative. A person considered wealthy in Bangladesh would not be wealthy in any way here either. The inability to make ends determines poverty.

You can still establish a relatively objective scale of poverty.

On an international basis, there really is little poverty in America.
