<<<Hospital prices in five Michigan cities including Lansing are higher for those with private insurance compared with what Medicare pays, according to a report released Thursday by the Center for Studying Health System Change.
Lansing patients paid nearly 50 percent more for inpatient hospital services and 27 percent more for outpatient care, according to an analysis of claims data for current and former autoworkers and their dependents.
The price disparity was even greater in some cities studied outside Michigan. Kansas City hospitals were reimbursed twice as much as Medicare paid for inpatient care and Indianapolis hospitals got more than 3½ times Medicare rates for the privately insured.>>>
