Is the GOP intentionally preventing a recovery?

Oh, exactly. As I've said for a long time, conservatives don't want less government, they just want less of the other guy's government.

There may be Republicans who want that, but not conservatives. By definition, a conservative is someone who supports smaller government. The term "big government conservative" is an oxymoron, just like the term "honest liberal."

Of course you get a few outliers like Ron Paul who'll talk up significant defense cuts, but guys like him don't get the GOP presidential nominations, and the truth is, conservatives like him are quietly despised by the conservative Republican establishment.

So you're only a "true conservative" if you support defense cuts? next you'll claim a true conservative supports socialized medicine.

Actually every neutral and Nobel prize winning economist and in fact everyone in the WORLD beside lying elitist mega rich Pubs and their silly dupes KNOW the stimulus stopped ANOTHER Pub Great Depression, dupe. (And global warming...).
It's actually AMAZING how much the Dems did before Scott Brown and BS Pub paralysis set in. The Pub House and Gov's , not to mention the RYAN plan have put the kaibosh on Neocon azzholes forever...TYVM

The Right keeps trying to sell this fantasy that big cuts in government spending will cause some sort of boom in jobs creation.

That's not how austerity works. If austerity worked that way, BOTH parties would be cutting spending like mad.

Wrong. You claim is based on the premise that liberals actually want the economy to boom.

The grim reality is that austerity would cost thousands, perhaps millions of jobs. Anyone who says otherwise is either naive, ignorant, or lying.

That's a liberal myth. If it were true, then the economy should be booming right now since we are so far from "austerity" we couldn't see it with the world's most powerful telescope.

If you can show any evidence that the mainstream conservative Republican consensus supports meaningful real cuts in defense spending,

by all means do so. Otherwise admit that I'm right.

Why would anyone waste his time providing evidence for that? Defense is small potatoes compared to the liberal boondoggles.

If you have evidence that an austerity program involving massive cuts in government spending will CREATE jobs, by all means post it.

Simply check out our neighbor to the North. Canada has been cutting government spending for several years now and their economy is booming.

They can't run on the truth because the truth is politically suicidal.

The defense industry, for example, has its tentacles in every state, practically every Congressional district in the country. You start talking about defense cuts and every Congressman with a defense related business in his or her district, or a military base, or anything living off defense spending,

promptly shits his or her pants.

So?

Fucking liberal parasites...

Soggy bro.....dont let the k00ks get to you. Deep down, these mofu's are miserable and they know whats coming. Mental cases frequently possess high inhtelligence, you know. If you look closely, these k00ks are getting more and more ornery every day on here. Its because they know they are falling deeper and deeper into the shitter with every economic report. And we speak to the nuttiest of the nutty on here. Just make sure to make plans to be on here on election night next year.........you'll be laughing your balls off when I start rolling out my Photobucket Classics. Its gonna be romp, romp and romp.......but the k00ks will still be talking like they are the mainstream. It'll be a fcukking hoot for conservatives bro and am I not the one to put the proverbial cherry on the big old sundae??

There is no question the GOP is in any way possible trying to screw up the economy, you'd have be an ignoramus to deny that. They want Obama to fail, the same tactics were used against Clinton and that duffus did some pretty stupid things such as nafta and welfare wreckage. Republicans can't govern as history has proven over and over again, but they want power to rape and pillage America through their corporate sponsors, that is too obvious given their worship of money.

"Every Wednesday morning, a group of conspirators meets to plot out how to most effectively attack the federal government. This is not a group of rag-tag terrorists – they wear $2,000 suits and occupy powerful positions in society. But their ideas are politically radical and they do pose a real threat to the normal workings of government in the U.S. They are a group of leading conservatives who believe that government is a malevolent force in society and they have a fierce determination to drastically cut it back. They are convinced that the central problem in our country is too much government – too many social programs, too many regulations, and too much taxation – and they are committed to doing something about it." This has to be one of the nuttiest posts in this entire forum.

The stupidity of stuff liberals believe is truly mind numbing.

It would almost work if we were already at a balanced budget, and were cutting spending that was being paid for with taxes and then there were accompanying tax cuts.

Problem is, we've already had the tax cuts, they're already built into the economy and have been for the last ten years or more.

All we're doing now when we cut is cutting spending we haven't been paying for in the first place. Cutting spending now is the equivalent of upping your monthly payment on your massive VISA bill...

...it doesn't make you richer, it makes you poorer. What made you 'richer' is all in that balance you ran up over the years, and all those clothes and gadgets and nights out on the town you bought,

they're all history.

Is the GOP intentionally preventing a recovery?

Given that economic improvement would interfere with their top priority, presumably yes.

Funny stuff. You say it like making Obama a one term President somehow is in conflict with an economic recovery, when in fact it's a basic requirement. Obama showed that a President can in this day and age be even worse for the economy then Bush. As much as that is actually an incredible achievement, I don't need to see him duplicate the feat. Let's all just agree that he can in fact do it again and not actually live through another of Obama's train wrecks of a Presidency.

Yeah, "socialist" countries like Canada, Germany, and Norway are doing pretty darn good.

Yes, Republicans perform satanic rituals, eat babies, trip old ladies in the street, murder the homeless in allies and don't tip taxi drivers. I always like hearing from an open minded, aware liberal such as yourself who recognizes that your political opponents don't just have different views from you but actually have evil intent. I suppose it makes it easier to justify in your mind what liberals do to win.

BTW, those people who pay no federal INCOME tax pay so much in payroll taxes and fees that they are in the same tax rate as the bloated mega rich. The feds now collect more in payroll taxes and fees than income tax. for the first time. BS voodoo economics is ruining the non rich and the country. It's a GD BS cult now- ideologue idiocy, with the mega rich killing the non rich as they always do under default pub rates, etc.:eusa_wall::eusa_angel:

Obama never promised 8% unemployment. Feel free to show me evidence that he did.

Barack Obama's Stimulus Plan: Failing by Its Own Measure - TIME

The $787 billion stimulus plan is turning out to be far less stimulating than its architects expected.

Back in early January, when Barack Obama was still President-elect, two of his chief economic advisers — leading proponents of a stimulus bill — predicted that the passage of a large economic-aid package would boost the economy and keep the unemployment rate below 8%. It hasn't quite worked out that way. Last month, the jobless rate in the U.S. hit 9.5%, the highest level it has reached since 1983. (See 10 ways your job will change.)

The two advisers who wrote the paper, Christina Romer and Jared Bernstein, went on to land key jobs in the Obama Administration. Romer is the head of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, and Bernstein is the chief economist and economic-policy adviser to Vice President Joe Biden.
