The situation in Gaza is unique. The ruling body in Gaza has (a) stated in its founding documents the firm intention to eradicate all Jews from the territory in question, and has (b) continually for more than a decade mounted terroristic attacks - mainly in the form of missiles fired into civilian enclaves - against the State of Israel. Thousands of missiles over more than a decade.
Even now, the military forces attacking Israel could bring hostilities to a close almost immediately if they would release the hostages and stop their attacks. Indeed ALL of Israel's military actions have been reactive to stop "Palestinian" military initiatives.
As long as Hamas and its allies continue their attacks, Israel's action are defensive.

Fourthly, it would be equally paradoxical to allow each party to act in self-defence against each other’s acts of self defence. Thus one of the parties must be the aggressor. On several counts, not least its defiance of UNSC resolutions, Israel must be considered the aggressor.
Israel’s only legitimate way of defending itself begins with ending its occupation. Israelis have a right to life and they deserve peace and security as we all do, but they have no right to kill Palestinians and claim that they are pursuing those things.

UN resolution 242 told you to get the fuck out of the OPT. That is the position of the entire world since 1967. You are also shitting on the memory of Holocaust victims, because the UN Charter and IHL were specifically created to prevent another one. So when you thumb your nose at the UN Charter and UNSC resolution 242, you are making all the lives lost in the Holocaust to have died in vain.You can certainly regain territory that was seized from you in a war. Besides, according to the 1949 Armistice agreement between Israel and Jordan (the two warring parties - Jordan the aggressor, and Israel the defender) explicitly says that the Armistice Demarcation Line is not to be considered a permanent boundary. (See Articles II 1 and 2; Article IV 2; Article VI 8 and 9.)
And besides that, the international boundary between Israel and Jordan is established and recognized in the peace treaty between them and is, generally, the Jordan River. (See Article III 2 and Annex Ia.)
