Israel's War Against Hamas - Updates

RAFAH, Gaza Strip — Israeli troops fired on a large crowd of Palestinians racing to pull food off an aid convoy in Gaza City on Thursday, witnesses said. More than 100 people were killed in the chaos, bringing the death toll since the start of the Israel-Hamas war to more than 30,000, according to health officials.

At least 112 people were killed, Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said. The Health Ministry described it as a "massacre."

The increasing alarm over hunger across Gaza has fueled international calls for a cease-fire, and the U.S., Egypt and Qatar are working to secure a deal between Israel and Hamas for a pause in fighting and the release of some of the hostages Hamas took during its Oct. 7 attack.

Medics arriving at the scene of the bloodshed Thursday found "dozens or hundreds" lying on the ground, according to Fares Afana, the head of the ambulance service at Kamal Adwan Hospital. He said there were not enough ambulances to collect all the dead and wounded and that some were being brought to hospitals in donkey carts.

False, false, false. From Hamas fingertips and megaphones.

Please correct this blatant lie.

Thank you.

Gaza's health ministry said Thursday that the number of Palestinians killed in the war has surpassed 30,000. The official number now stands at 30,035 deaths. The figure is widely viewed as the most reliable one available.

The health ministry provided NPR with one of its latest reports on the death toll, 38 pages long, to analyze. A close look at how Gaza's health ministry counts those killed in the war reveals a system that is buckling under the weight of war and unable to keep an accurate toll of the dead.

Thousands remain unaccounted for — either missing under the rubble, buried hastily in side streets or decomposing in areas that can't be safely reached.

Gaza is the most dangerous place in the world to be a child, the United Nations says. It’s a place where thousands of children have been killed, part of the soaring death toll from Israel’s military campaign since Hamas attacked the country on Oct. 7.

But survival is no guarantee of an escape from the horror summed up by medical workers in a grim new initialism: WCNSF.

Wounded Child, No Surviving Family.

“In the emergency department after an air raid there’s so many relatives around the bed of the wounded,” said Ghassan Abu Sitta, a British Palestinian reconstructive plastic surgeon who spent weeks treating the injured in Gaza. “But there would be a stretcher where a child would be on their own, and there was no movement around them, there’s no one asking for them.”

Doctors and aid workers say these unaccompanied children often have grisly injuries: deep tissue burns, lung contusions, brain damage, lost limbs, shrapnel wounds. Some arrive unconscious. Some need immediate resuscitation.

UNICEF estimated this month that about 17,000 children in Gaza are unaccompanied or separated from their families.

Pediatrician Seema Jilani, a senior technical adviser for emergency health at the International Rescue Committee, who returned from Gaza last month, said most of the wounds she saw among children were blast injuries.

She described an 11-year-old girl who was believed to be an unaccompanied child. “Her face and upper neck had been blackened and charred. Her arms were stuck in a flexed position,” Jilani said.

I would be surprised if she did recover,” she said.

Got any verification for your figures besides Twitter? Gaza health ministry figures are widely regarded to be the most accurate available though undercounted. The article I posted explains why.

Not quite. They are part of the government but that doesn’t mean their figures are inaccurate, read how they are collected. Even Israel doesn’t really dispute them.

30,000

Israel does not dispute them?
Where did you read that?

How many Hamas, IJ and Quasam fighters dressed as civilians do you think have died, been injured, arrested, or given themselves up?

How many actual civilians has Hamas shot at, used as human shields?

The Gaza Health Ministry does not count them at all as fighters. They are all civilians. So, how reliable is the Gaza Health Ministry account of the dead?

So, 3000 or 30,000 how many deaths is Hamas responsible for?

And where does Israel get its figures?

Figures from the Gaza health ministry state that they don’t differentiate between fighters and civilians but 2/3 are women and children. Enough excuses.
