We don't base national policy on a position that isn't supported by evidence because its irrational. Your airborne trasmission standard isn't supported by evidence. Transmission via bodily fluid is supported by evidence. Thus, we follow the evidence. And not unsupported fear.
I'm not arguing that airborne transmission of ebola need be certain before we can take action against it. I'm saying that it would need to be documented as remotely probable. And isn't.
We believe there is scientific and epidemiologic evidence that Ebola virus has the potential to be transmi[tted via infectious aerosol particles both near and at a distance from infected patients, which means that healthcare workers should be wearing respirators, not facemasks.1
The evidence simply isn't there to support such a position. I can cite epidemiologist after epidemiologist that confirms this. Including the CDC.
