James Madison: "tyranny will come to the US in the guise of fighing a foreign enemy"...like Russia

Thinking we can be friends with a country that has never liked us and has a massive nuclear arsenal pointed right at us is foolish. Trump and the Trumpbots have a blind spot for Russia, a fact Putin is guaranteed to exploit. If Trump does not wise up about his buddy he deserves to be impeached as quickly as possible.

We used to have good relations with Russia. They are so far away that we have no conflicts of interest.

The Cold War is over. Be happy about that. No WWIII.
You don't get it. The cold war is back on and your man is playing the role of Nevile Chamberlain to Putin's Hitler. Your man tells you that appeasement with Putin is good, that we can trust him, but the stage is being set for Russia to invade our sphere of influence and diminish our power. Hopefully the congress will impeach him before he helps Putin damage us too badly.

The Cold War is not back on. The reasons for the Cold War are all gone.

THis is not about "trusting Putin".

NOthing PUtin does in Eastern Europe is a threat to US or will diminish our power.

Our Sphere of influence?

How the hell is Estonia in our Sphere of Influence?

No one really gives a damn about Estonia, it's but a pawn in a larger coming conflict. Putin is about to set up shop in the middle east with an expansionist agenda and your man is going to help him.

Chamberlain is a great analogy. Well done.

If we do not give a damn about Estonia, then we should not be Treaty bound to protect it.

What is the reason for this "larger conflict"?

I should not even have to educate you on this. Putin is terribly dissatisfied with Russia's place in the world. He remembers when Russia was a big player on the international stage and wants to get back to a position where Russia is a real competitor with America as it used to be. Every foriegn policy expert is aware of this, it's why Trump's inexplicable love for Putin is so alarming. Putin is not our friend and does not want to be, he wants us to be a secondary world power as Russia has been since the iron curtain fell. Putin is positioning himself to be our chief adversary again while Trump is positioning America to simply accept a resurgent Russia.

IMO Putin knows that is impossible. Russia is a pale shadow of the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union was only as much of a threat as it was because of it's European EMpire and it's attractive ideology.

Given Russia's decline relative to both Europe AND the muslim former republics of the SU, your scenario is a pipe dream.

This bullshit reminds me of something

I never said that Russia was capable of these grandiose schemes but they are certainly capable of complicating our alliances and strategic aims in the world, especially the middle east. Keep a close eye on Syria as Russia consolidates it's military power there.

IMO, Putin is smart enough to realize that those goals are not reasonable.

IMO, his goals are more reasonable and not threatening to US.

Syria? If he want's to kill jihadists in Syria he is welcome to have at it.

We have no conflict of interest. The COld War is over, and there is no need of a new one.

Tell that to Putin. We do not want a new cold war but it is going to come nevertheless. Hopefully Trump will not sabotage our response to the point that it seriously endangers us.

Putin's done nothing to indicate that he has an unrealistic view of his nation's capabilities.

He doesn't want a new Cold War. He knows that it would be horribly dangerous for both nations and the world.

Trump is the one to move our nation to a POST COLD WAR mindset. That is the exact OPPOSITE of sabotage.

I had no hope that you would see things for how they are but I tried anyway. I am somewhat encouraged that the entire republican congress is not in love with Putin as Trump and the Trumpbots seem to be. You people are shitting bricks over ISIS while thinking we can be friends with a country that has ICBMs targeted on us.

The ICBMs are a relic of a bygone age.

ISIS is actually killing us. Damn right I fear them. If PUtin wants to station troops in Syria to kill them, more power to him.

Congress can't force the President to take offensive action against Russia.

There's no money in peace. The Elites who decide these things, only see money in war. Peace is not an option.

Except that Trump won.

I'm a Trump supporters, but i realize the wars will go on. The President of the US doesn't control that. Like i said, the Elites don't see money in peace. It isn't an option.

The case for action against Russia is quite weak. It will be very difficult for them to pressure Trump into action. All he has to do is NOT fuck with Russia and the problem just isn't.

Unfortunately, he will be forced into supporting some sort of sanctions. The Republican Party led by corrupt frauds like Lindsey Graham and John McCain, will force his hand. It's not just corrupt Democrats he's dealing with.

They've boxed him in. It's sabotage. But he'll come out of it fine. I think it'll backfire on the Democrats. Most Americans despise sore losers. This Democrat Russia hissy fit won't end up harming Trump. Mark my words.
