The first family car I remember was a blue Comet. Pretty sure Dad didn't get 500K miles out of that beater.

when i was working in the PO my supervisor used to drive from Barstow to Anaheim every day......108 miles one way....with a ford pinto no less....

Barstow is awesome if you like living in the middle of nowhere, and a lot of people do, but a hot desert? To each their own.

That she keeps a diagram to show modern ''mechanics'' (basically just parts replacers these days) where all of the lube points are on the car was impressive, I thought.
