Lead Us Not Into Bad Translations: Pope Francis Enacts Change to Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

That’s the Catholic text of “The Lord’s Prayer.” But The Vatican — under the direction of Pope Francis — will soon enact a major change to the text to---------------------------------------------------

Get rid of religion,,,,,,, re write history , religion etc and you haven't a clue

What is your problem? We're not talking about any significant changes.

Pope Francis has officially approved a change to the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:13 that replaces "lead us not into temptation" with "do not let us fall into temptation."

The Pope believes the new version is better because the first translation implies that God leads people into temptation, an action that is against his nature as a good and holy God.

Pope Francis Officially Approves Change to Lord's Prayer

So what? One version of the Lord's Prayer that I kinda liked better than the original was replacing "daily bread" with "daily strength".

It doesn't matter so much what you say in your prayer, it matters more that you maintain a steady contact with God, or Higher Power, or whatever you wish to call it.

The church I went to as a kid said "debtors" instead of "trespasses"

My church said: Forgive us of being assholes as we forgive assholes that we encounter daily.

Won’t changing the words alter the magic spell’s effects?

Only for you.

Is it true that the Hail Mary is a better defensive spell than the lord’s prayer?

BlackFlag's "Lord's Prayer";

Our State who art the heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in our dreamed Eutopia.

Give us this day our controlling desires and forgive those who trespasses against our wishes,

as we will not forgive those who trespass against the State,

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from those who refuse to think like us.

That’s the Catholic text of “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Actually, the Catholic text is this:

Pater noster, qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum,
adveniat regnum tuum,
fiat voluntas tua,
sicut in caelo, et in terra.
Panem nostrum supersubstantialem da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;
et ne inducas nos in tentationem;
sed libera nos a Malo.

Just because somebody won’t worship your preferred magical being doesn’t mean they have to worship somehing else.

Today's version will be -Our gender neutral parental deity...

Actually, according to many Jewish texts, God is both male and female.
God’s manifestation, not God.
God is not describable as part of our reality.
Soooo, how would you describe him/her? Or does that not matter?
IT can only be described by IT’S interactions with IT’S creation at any given moment.
IT does not have a height, weight, or any other intrinsically describable physical characteristics.
