This is not mine, I read it on another site. I have read it before and agree with it. IMO, we are a couple decades from full socialism.......

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury'

'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship'

'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;

2. From spiritual faith to great courage;

3. From courage to liberty;

4. From liberty to abundance;

5. From abundance to complacency;

6. From complacency to apathy;

7. From apathy to dependence;

8. From dependence back into bondage'

You're too pessimistic I think. so far EVERY form of government has proved temporary. I see no reason democracy will only exist until voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. Monarchs, lords, dictatorships, etc. have been giving themselves generous gifts from the public treasury since civilization began. I see democracy as a pendulum, when the pendulum swings too far in either direction it is pulled back to the center.

So when the pendulum swings far enough into a dictatorship you still call that a democracy? We need to not have the pendulum swing at all but there is too much greed everywhere.

Trump.

The End.
I want to be civil. I see trump as trying to stop the pendulum, stopping the evolution into socialism or a dictatorship. I see Hillary as pushing forward into more division and more socialism which leads to apathy and a dictatorship. But we will not agree.

Too much greed is an issue so you're supporting Trump? You might want to work on that.

and so do I, lets be civil, and real

Authoritarians obey. They rally to and follow strong leaders. And they respond aggressively to outsiders, especially when they feel threatened. From pledging to “make America great again” by building a wall on the border to promising to close mosques and ban Muslims from visiting the United States, Trump is playing directly to authoritarian inclinations.

impossible to deny, unless you're a Trumpbot.

You're getting confused. Yes I support trump but regardless who we choose we are heading to socialism and greed is the main reason. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the poor get pissed off and vote for the candidate that promises them more free stuff. The poor are increasing everyday. Hillary will put us on the fast track to socialism. Same with trump but a slowed down pace. It's coming wether you want it or not and our standard of living will suffer.

Sure thing, the standard of living in all those western socialist nations sucks? Oh wait, my bad, they have better lives than we do. Never mind.

If the rich are getting richer then you don't have much, if any, socialism around. You don't have to worry about socialism here until the bottom gets truly tired of being shit on and they never will, they are only one lucky ticket away from the lottery win and being rich themselves. Marx missed that part, the poor are also conservative.

Call it what you want, I call it common sense. My Hispanic wife agrees as well. We would not be closing mosques. Keeping refugees out that we know nothing about is common sense. As usual libs govern with emotions not with their brains.

This is as ridiculous as it is untrue.

What kind of loon buys into this rot.

I call it what it is

I digress ..

Trump and his bots don't rule with emotion? must be why RW's feel the need to isolate themselves from the world, and trash the very principles that made this country a free America.

Toynbee's famous quite about civilizations dying by suicide rather than murder comes to mind. When cultures stop believing in themselves and stop believing in all the values that made them great, there is inevitable decline.

From the right, the threat is authoritarianism such as Trump represents. From the left, the threat is the brand of multiculturalism that Hillary represents. In trump's case, it is his way or the highway, while Hillary panders to the notion that we aren't exceptional at all while promoting a dysfunctional brand of cultural relativism.

Seems to me that it isn't a matter of our committing suicide, but the manner in which we seek to do so. Europe is in more grave danger than we are currently, as the Islamization process is more of an immediate threat than that of authoritarianism. If anything, I would say our own immediate threat is from authoritarianism, but if we continue down the same path as Europe, authoritarianism will end up being the only available response. There is a reason Europe is seeing a resurgence of the far right and that is because the far left has been working to undermine all the distinct cultures of Europe in favor of a brand of idealism that is downright dystopian. I don't want us to go any further down that path.
