Libertarians know. Do you?

“Bourgeois society faces a dilemma,” socialist Rosa Luxemburg writes, “either a transition to Socialism, or a return to barbarism … we face the choice: either the victory of imperialism and the decline of all culture, as in ancient Rome—annihilation, devastation, degeneration, a yawning graveyard; or the victory of Socialism—the victory of the international working class consciously assaulting imperialism and its method: war. This is the dilemma of world history, either-or; the die will be cast by the class-conscious proletariat.”
What complete and total bullshit. Socialism will exacerbate the problem.

Just give up on that failed, false ideology.

The problem exists because of capitalism. It's just that simple.

If you are not dedicated to the destruction of empire and the dismantling of American militarism, then you cannot count yourself as a member of the left. It is not a side issue. It is the issue. Militarists and war profiteers are our greatest enemy. They use fear, bolstered by racism, as a tool in their efforts to abolish civil liberties, crush dissent and ultimately extinguish democracy. To produce weapons and finance military expansion, they ruin the domestic economy by diverting resources, scientific and technical expertise and a disproportionate share of government funds. They use the military to carry out futile, decades-long wars to enrich corporations such as Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman. War is a business. And when the generals retire, guess where they go to work? Profits swell. War never stops. Whole sections of the earth live in terror. And our nation is disemboweled and left to live under what the political philosopher Sheldon Wolin calls “inverted totalitarianism.” Libertarians seem to get this. It is time the left woke up.

Written by Chris Hedges and well done I say. The real enemy is indeed within. When will the American people wake up?

The Real Enemy Is Within

I agree with a great deal of what was said. But BOTH sides need to wake up and do it very soon!

Actually no Libertarians have an aversion to a strong military Defense. Just some principles about how it is used. In fact, Libertarians would HAVE a comprehensive and impenetrable CONUS missile defense system by now. For a FRACTION of the cost of our 12 recent Mid East interventions that LARGELY should never happened.

As to Empire -- I don't think we give a rat about about Guam or Puerto Rico or any other tiny vestige of Empire. There is no American Empire. Only in the mind of Noah Chomsky..

I really don't understand how any American disputes that America is an empire. I know many like to think it is not an empire, but it clearly is. When our criminal government has too many foriegn bases to count and is involved in many wars, how can you think this?

Watch Leon Pannetta in this clip. He is a disgusting warmonger, like so many in our ruling class. A tool for the military industrial complex.

You say "dismantling the state" like it is a bad thing.. Actually it is the best thing that could happen. Anarchy would have its benefits over what we have now.

Dear imbecile,

If everyone followed the non-aggression principle there wouldn't have been any wars of aggression, including WW II, It's hyper-aggressive gub'mint worshiping morons like you that start wars.

Okay, sure, because clearly everyone would agree and sing kumbaya!!!

The fact we had a second world war so soon after the first one shows how silly that notion is.

Stick to what you know Joe, like comic books and what's playing at the movie theaters this week and leave the weighty matters to your betters.

Libertarians are big dope-smoking kids... they need to leave the important stuff to the grownups.

LOL, Thanks for once again demonstrating what a shallow, simple minded nitwit you really are.

Per SOP, your vapid opinions have been..

The problem exists because of capitalism. It's just that simple.

We don't have capitalism. We have Keynesianism.

Er..umm.. Not according to Keynes we don't.

JMK never advocated running perpetual, ever increasing operating deficits let alone unaccounted for future liabilities, he also didn't advocate for cronyism, political patronage or excessive monetary manipulation.

I'm no fan of JMK but as misguided as he was he doesn't deserve the blame for all this shit.

It might be more accurate to characterize what's been done to the U.S. economy as New Age Kleptocratic Crony Krugmanism. ;)

That's actually true. To a large extent. Keynes was just as strongly against inflationism as any gold bug of the time. And he was openly in agreement that the fastest way to destroy a nation was to destroy its currency. It's his disciples that we have to worry about. Like the Krugmans of the world. What Keynes did was encourage the intellectual community to accept that the way to solve all problems was 1 - to have government solve them, and 2 - the way to have government solve them was to place intellectuals in charge and to give them the controls rather than the private voluntary opportunity of Individuals via the free market.

So this is what Keynesianism means. Thanks for chiming in there. I've never taken the time to explain it now that I think on it.

Bases overseas are a separate issue. MOST are by invitation and revokeable. They do not affect the SOVEREIGNTY of the host nations for the most part. With places like Gitmo being the exception.. We need "projection of power" for OUR OWN defense. Since threats like N. Korea or Islamists in Afghanistan or Iran are a fact of life. What we DON'T need is to be a PERMANENT "Foreign Legion" for advanced industrialized allies. They need to step up and we need to step down. Having too much "reach" just encourages the faulty interventionist attitude that BOTH parties have misused and abused.

When an issue crops up Africa or Asia and we are ASKED to intervene -- we will get the cooperation of allies to project the needed force. We should be ASKED for intervention in most cases..

This is obscene. As a libertarian, I ALWAYS remind folks "HOW MANY COUNTRIES WE"VE BOMBED THIS YEAR". It should be CONSTANTLY in the mind of every American voter. The 2 "brand name" parties collude to mask it -- but there is NO DIFFERENCE in the stupidity of our foreign policy when EITHER party is in charge. The LParty has been correct on MidEast intervention for 25 years. We were called "traitorous doves" for most of that time. But NOW -- after the 8th country that we helped to wreck in that region -- America is now on our side..

I do not agree. Foreign leaders know if they oppose American interests, they end up dead. It has happened many times. You do not oppose the Empire and live.

So what if the nations allow the US gov to put bases in their nations? This means nothing. Why must we have military bases all over the world? The answer is to control foriegn governments and make sure they abide by the Empire's dictates. Once the Cold War ended, we should have closed them all and returned home. The problem is how do you put the evil genie that is the American military industrial complex, back in the bottle.

They dont, gipper. We're actually the whore but nobody gets it.

Sounds like you want to dismantle the state. Do you propose your version of a state is better or do you just want anarchy?
You say "dismantling the state" like it is a bad thing.. Actually it is the best thing that could happen. Anarchy would have its benefits over what we have now.
Agreed. However most Americans have been conditioned to believe anarchy is a dirty word...they were conditioned to think this way, by the every thing that anarchy would eliminate...THE STATE.

The "state" will exist in one way or another. So will the rule of law. OUR job is to keep it in bounds. Not to attempt to survive in anarchy..
