There have always been sick people, and always will be.
Sure, you can say that we'll just keep the economy closed for the next 2 years, and hopefully we can get a vaccine, then everything will be back to normal.
But how about the next flu, next pestilence that is spread through the air. Do we do all this stuff again? Will America even have the money to battle this again in 2023 or 2024? I don't like the precedent of indefinite, longterm lockdowns.
