Yes and that is why he even admits (no lawyers present) that he had to declassified the documents just because he really wanted to keep them in order to impress his friends.

Let's for the sake of argument assume he didn't have those documents and was just boasting.

The recording still definitively establishes that he knew he could only declassify documents when in office.

He was charged with willful retention of national defense information/ withholding or concealing boxes of classified documents. They remained classified when they were taken away from him, because if they were declassified, he wouldn't have been charged for "classified documents"
