Massive Amtrak Crash....but who cares about our highways and trains?

Assumes facts not in evidence.

It assumes you have at least a luke-warm IQ and the ability to read the US Constitution as originally written (the only LEGITIMATE Federal Governmental document). If you cannot then please save us both the time and just move on.

All European and Asian countries have our rail system beat by 50 years. But nice try.
Why aren't these passenger lanes serviced by private companies, like the NS, CSX and the smaller regional railroads?

NS and CSX do not carry passengers.

The big auto companies quashed passage by rail in the 1960s, buying up the land around the train stations so there could be no expansion. It's called free enterprise, remember?

This line, the Northeast Corridor, is a nightmare to ride. The rail system between D.C. and Boston hasn't been updated in over 60 years.

But bomb, bomb, bomb ....bomb, bomb Iran. Yeah baby! Defense spending trumps our own citizens' ability to get to work every day.

We need a pipeline...

The latest update was that train was doing 100mph when it went off the tracks. An autopsy on the engineer or terrorist who was at the controls should answer most questions.

Heres some non speculation...

For 43 years, Amtrak has operated at a loss. It stays in business thanks to a healthy annual government subsidy of around $1b a year. It also benefits from the busy Northeast Corridor, which accounts for a large chunk of its overall revenue.

Their business model keeps ticket prices high, despite the fact that most Americans look to planes and automobiles for long distance travel. Is Amtrak worth it?

Produced by Graham Flanagan.

Absolutely yes, Amtrak it worth it.

Given the choice between driving, flying or taking Amtrak between NYC and DC, Amtrak is the quickest and most comfortable option of all.

We've already funded an automated system, to set

We already paid for the improvements to automate the speed of Amtrak, you dumb ass piece of shit.

Why should the American people pay a company to provide such a low-demand service?

Assumes facts not in evidence.

Amtrak demand in the DC-NYC corridor is high. It is the fact that it is forced by the government to maintain non profitable services in low-demand areas that costs taxpayers money. If Amtrak did not have that requirement it would have shut down those low-demand lines a long time ago.

Last time I mentioned our crumbling infrastructure I was derided for sounding like a broken record. So six people dead and 140 injured. So six people dead and 140 injured. So six people dead and....

Not to mention that all train traffic between Phila and NYC has been stopped since last night at 9:30. You shut down NYC and the country will come to a halt, too.

It is truly tragic that these people were killed, it truly is. But if you really cared about the US infrastructure, and bettering the lives of workers period, you would push for the adoption of telework and flex work systems in all industries where that is possible. Everything else you whine about is merely mental masturbation.

The facts are that trains don't pay for themselves. Period. They CAN work in extremely dense population areas like the one involved, but even there....were it not for the millions of car drivers the trains would be gone.

Work to do something that would actually be beneficial to the planet and people in general. This sniveling of yours is just stupid.

First you whine about people who won't get a job, and then when they do you don't care if they can get to it.

I don't know where you live, but the train system in the NY metro - Phila - DC area serves millions of people.

I know you don't have that many people in your holler' down there in the swamp, but I am sniveling about something that affects food supplies, energy and commerce being able to function at a higher level than the 3rd World transportation system that people like YOU have us living in today.

At this time we don't know what speed the train was actually traveling through that curve. That doesn't alter the fact that the DC-NYC track is rated for high speed Acela service.

...but I am sniveling about something that affects food supplies, energy and commerce being able to function at a higher level...
The state of passenger rail service in the US, especially on publicly-owned rail trackage, has little, if any, effect on this.
