Maybe it's time to move on.

Ya because partisanship, personal attacks, and immaturity aren't found on other boards. Grow up. If you can't handle opposition why even join a discussion site? Wanna only talk with people who agree with you find a fan site or similar. Discussion sites are going to be filled with people that don't agree with you on every little thing. Screw em./ Present your case, don't compromise, don't kiss ass, and be content knowing you made youc ase and though some wont buy it, some will. If you're only interested in being appealing to everyone you shouldn't be here. You should run for political office. :)

Lighten up. He's got a point. When people respond to a thread just to hijack the discussion it's disheartening. No matter who does it, Delta.

Get thee to a nunnery or the CLEAN DEBATE ZONE!!!

Anyone who supports the OP's line is OBVIOUSLY Liberal. Because only Liberals would complain and threaten to leave a board because it was too argumentative even though there exists at that board a SEPARATE SECTION DEVOTED TO CLEAN DEBATE!!!

:cuckoo:
I personally dont like the clean debate forum...I like having more freedom in my posts. It isn't that OP doesn't like insults that bother me it is the bullshit of saying if any disagree they are partisan and because of that he has to leave. It is childish.

I'm seriously thinking about moving on to another board. The reason is simple, I'm really getting fed up with the totally super partisan threads that are based on nothing but talking points. Also, there are rare discussions on this board, it's always someone stating an opinion and then followed up with posts containing derogatory comments flying both ways sans facts. I try very hard not to stoop to this level but sometimes it gets really hard not to get fed up.
It seems to be requirement to personally insult someone who disagrees with you.
I find this trend to be boring and certainly not stimulating.
This board isn't lacking intelligent posters, it's just that they get drowned out by hyper- partisans who would prefer going to the gutter approach. I would love to know exactly how many threads end up going off-topic because of posters with partisan anger issues.
So anyway, it's time to go shopping for a board that is dominated by cool heads, good fact filled discussions by posters who have the ability to think for themselves.

Let us know if you find such a place.

Kiwi. Think about this for a moment. What you want to escape here, you will more than likely encounter elsewhere. This type of behavior is pervasive anywhere you go. I found that not posting for a day or two seems to clear my head of all the partisanship. But if you must go, don't forget your sword. You'll need it.

Please let us know if you find a good place. I'll follow you over there. My Ignore list is getting really long.

I find this a timely post after reading this opinion this morning:

Tolerance, the Key to Liberty
Separating the person from the belief is a basic requirement of a free society.

By Fred Bauer

When Roger Williams published The Bloudy Tenent of Persecution in 1644, colonial New England was beset by religious and cultural controversies. The experience of being religious dissenters in England had not made the Puritan divines entirely sympathetic to the status of religious minorities. Instead, authorities in the Massachusetts Bay Colony resorted to imprisonment, banishment, physical punishment, and, in some cases, execution to suppress religious dissent. Williams responded to this atmosphere by making a case for cultural and political tolerance. Calling for a separation of the institutions of government from those of religious institutions, Williams argued for a society where freedom of conscience and religious belief would be celebrated. Williams’s argument was not entirely successful; religious suppression continued in parts of New England (a handful of Quakers were executed between 1659 and 1661, for example). But it has been quite influential. Williams realized how radically transformative the impulses of tolerance could be, and many of the architects of the American civic sphere, such as John Locke and Thomas Jefferson, recognized tolerance as key for the enterprise of liberty.

In the “outrage porn” of the current moment, many are eager to position themselves as puritanical arbiters of justice. Conflating moral rectitude with expressions of anger (at both “bad” thoughts and the thinkers of those “bad” thoughts), the advocates of outrage wage a scorched-earth campaign to demonize, harass, and mock those with whom they disagree. “Moral indignation” has thus been rendered redundant, as pique directly correlates with the precision of one’s moral compass. In such an atmosphere, tolerance may be viewed not as a virtue but as an indifference to evil. Though it might be unfashionable, tolerance has powerful claims as an individual and civic virtue, so there is considerable merit in renewing a case for tolerance as helping to sustain and invigorate the American republic.

No such place.

I'll bet there is. Ten years ago, The Atlantic Monthly had such a place. No flaming was allowed. A huge majority of people were intelligent enough to think for themselves. Talking points were basically non-existent. We had a great representation of the world's countries. Great discussion/debates were the norm. Unfortunately, The Atlantic decided to go subscription only for forum participation, so 1,000s of posters turned into just a couple of hundred (I had a subscription).
Since I started this thread I've gotten the heads up to a couple of forums that may fit my above description. Over the weekend I'll check them. Interestingly, I've been contacted by other posters who feel the same way I do and they are from all sides of the aisle.
I already had my kids, brought them up and now there are successful adults. I am sick of dealing with adults who love to act like undisciplined children on these boards. It's no wonder I have seen some of this boards best posters leave and not come back.
Also, The Atlantic has discussions attached to articles and from the ones I've read, they are civil and intelligent from posters of all and no ideologies. I will be getting involved in those discussions.
If one looks hard enough, they usually find what they are seeking.

Can't say I totally agree/disagree w/ the OP. I tend to find it amusing how people are quick to ad hominem attacks rather than focusing on the issue. I don't participate in many threads because I'm stuck in school and such. But OP, I can't say the grass is greener on the other side. Most political boards that I've encountered are mostly like this one. I've found the best political conversations that I've had were on my Facebook wall. That's mostly due to the fact we all knew each other personally, and respected each other's opinion, no matter how much we agreed/disagreed w/ each other.
