A General is not to make his own decisions like this
That was one of the reasons D-Day was successful. Hitler was a strict authoritarian and all orders had to be approved by him. We are not a war.
Milley told military commanders to disregard all orders given
Sure he did.
If Trump wins the next election, don't be surprised if the tanks roll into Washington to stop it.
You're leading today's Hyper-Hyperbole poll.

Milley usurped civilian authority by breaking chain of command….WITH THE SUPPORT OF PELOSI.

Both should be arrested and tried for treason.

Whew! This Milley brouhaha has turned into a food-fight of partisan silliness. IMHO.

I scan/read this long thread. And I gotta admit the histrionics are fairly amusing....too many empty calories though.
Here, lemme give you some examples. Like a Country Buffet....I picked only what interested me. You too?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • (Milley) ......making unauthorized calls...."
  • "He had no ground to call China and did what he did........ Milley just wanted some payback from the CCP."
  • "....let alone communicate with an adversary of the US on his own."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it 'unauthorize' for our leaders to talk to their counterparts in other countries? Some here are calling China our enemy, our adversary, a hostile nation; however, China, in 2020, was our largest trading partner.
$435 billion in imports from them; $177 billion in exports to them.
And some here say that our leaders must not talk to each other when issues arise that are worrisome?

As has been reported: American intelligence had picked up signals that some within China, the military in particular, were anxious over Don Trump's threats against them, that China needs to be made to pay for being the origin of Covid.....the "China Flu".

Couple that with two other realities:
1. The widespread reportage in domestic and international media that Don Trump was unstable;
2. but most importantly, and perceptive poster
Lysistrata referenced it already --- to wit......."instigate a worldwide conflagration."

Get that? Nuclear war a risk? Or just a bad few days of conventional bombs dropping? Many live people ..... quit being 'live'?

So, with those stakes it is proper and fitting that the adults-in-the-room speak to each other and to calm down any fears, any anxieties......arising on either side.......... rightly, or wrongly.

And then, to contextualize this high level communication between edgy nations.....the so called 'treason' some hysterical posters screech bout...... poster Care4all provides nuance that, if true, should re-assure any of us non-principle 'adults-in-the-room'.

To wit:

"He had the phone call under direction of Trump's secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, and 15 other govt officials were listening in on the phone call.... It wasn't secret, it was part of his job,"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, the above was the healthiest part of the Country Buffet that I saw.

However, there were some bitter-looking over-cooked dishes on the warming table too.
Let's stick a fork in 'em:

  • "The US no longer has civilian control of the military. It is owned by the DNC"
  • "Milley offered to give a hostile country, China, secret information as to our military maneuvers."
  • .....the left-politic .... has buttfucked our military ....It only appears they blow communistic cocks and blow sperm at the American public.
"Millie wasn't spying for China. He was spying for ISIS.
.............this Shadow government wants Xi Jinping removed and replaced him with another."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But let's conclude our visit to the Country Buffet with this healthful, nourishing and insightful dish from alert poster 'Bobob'.
"He did his job to keep the peace, because China could easily have misinterpreted tump's
behavior as out of control.........Communication is crucial and proper because talking keeps the peace,"

Thank you, Bobob. A thumbs up .........and a hat-tip. Bon Appetit!

Milley's boss said he never authorized the January calls. If you can't understand why that matters, this conversation is beyond you.

First of all, Milley was not our leader, and u should go to read what Miley told General Li; in fact, SOD already said he did not authorize such a call.

He did not break any chain of command in saying he would refuse an illegal order, and a executive ordered attack on china would be illegal unless Jina was an immintent threat. The question is whether Miley did anything wrong in telling Jina that he'd do it. We teach in all of our military academies that officers swear to have a constitutional duty to disobey illegal orders. It's no secret.

Imo you'd be just hunky if Miley did this with a senile Biden. And your real bitch is about Trump.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is not in any chain of command. He is an advisor to the president nothing more. Even if there was an illegal order, there is no protection to communicating that illegal order to a hostile nation.

Actually Milley would never get such an order. That would be the Secretary of Defense.

To bad he wasn't willing to extend that same courtesy to the civilian we apparently took out with a drone a week or so ago.

^ Bears repeating!!!

Did Milley also coordinate the Unconditional Surrender of Afghanistan on terms most favorable to his CCP Masters?

Milley is NOT in the chain of command, so he cannot refuse an illegal order, simply because he would never receive one!

It is not taught "in the military academies" alone. If you disobey an illegal order, you best have your ducks in a row or you will be sitting in a court martial with no water glass on your table. That's where Milley needs to be if the accusations are proven.

I didn't bring up "chain of command." Col Angus brought it up. Take your complaint up with him, not me.

And Miley did not "communicat[e]that illegal order to a hostile nation." He said he would, if he had to. And if he did have to, he'd face the consequences.

First of all, Milley was not our leader, and u should go to read what Miley told General Li; in fact, SOD already said he did not authorize such a call.
The conversation where he allegedly told China counterpart that he would give a heads up... took place October 30th and it was at the direction of the SOD, with 15 other govt officials listening to the call.

The phone call after the Jan 6th riot at our capital, on January 8th was to reassure China counterpart, that everything was fine with us....democracy is just a little sloppy some times.

You don't need some newly put in phony and unqualified SOD, (WHO WAS not given the constitutional consent of the Senate to be an SOD) Trump crony playing SOD the last month of Trump's presidency permission to make that second call.....that's Milley's damn job.

Milley's boss said he never authorized the January calls. If you can't understand why that matters, this conversation is beyond you.

Milley never sought or needed Herr Zippy's approval. It was, for lack of a better fitting term, "a perfect call".

btw, imo Miley needs to be toast. Although, legally speaking, anyone who has advance knowledge a crime is going to be committed has to report it. And then there's simple morality.

There's nothing treasonous or even illegal in what Miley did. But Miley's actions seem to me to be more similar to Eric Shinseki who resigned as chief of staff after calling out W's fatally (truly a pun) flawed plan for the occupation and nation building in Iraq.

There's some irony to Trumpfans saying Miley is guilty of treason - even though he didn't share any secrets - but no one says anything about Miley's and other's fears Trump would criminally misue the military. Maybe Trump had no inclination to do so. But Miley was not alone.

Yes he would need approval. We do not allow our generals to conduct their own private diplomacy. You folks are out of your depth on this.
