Record Hot Water Is Fueling Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton gained strength over the Gulf of Mexico extremely quickly on Monday, going from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in under a day.

Much of that intensification was fueled by record warm ocean temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico. Global temperatures are rising long term because the burning of
fossil fuels adds greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, helping trap heat near the planet’s surface.

Milton checks pretty much all the boxes of a prototypical climate change fueled storm. It could be one of the worst hurricanes to hit the Gulf in a century. It intensified quickly, is immensely powerful, is expected to remain strong for a longer period of time, and follows a previously ferocious storm.

These types of events are becoming more frequent and more costly. The cost being partly due to population density and partly due to the severity of the storms.

Then again, Dementia Don says there will be more ocean front property when the sea level rises. Unfortunately, the opposite is true.

So is this Milton storm living up to the hype? Seemed overly dramatised.

Hurricane Milton is a WEATHER phenomenon , and has nothing to do with "climate". In fact, hurricanes are a common occurrence in the Florida region this time of year and always have been. Milton's appearance is consistent with the climate in that region in the fall.
Human caused climate change is a fact.

Republicans responsible for more intense storms is a fact, the consequence of their unwarranted opposition to addressing the problem.

Too bad that the biggest CO2 emitter isn't the US, its China and Asia.
We aren't denying climate change, we're denying that the US is the problem.

If you accept AGW and you have an ounce of sense, you would realize that the critical parameter is not total emissions, it is PER CAPITA EMISSIONS.

Neither China nor India even make it into the Top 10

Biden and Harris have been responsible for the climate over the past 3 3/4 years.

Not the Republicans and certainly not Trump.

That's awful!

How many new nuclear reactors should we build, to help cool the oceans?

China and India are lower per capita, but because there's billions of them, they're two very big co2 polluting nations.

Europe is going all guns to fuck their economies with this climate crap and their co2 output is tiny.

This is climate science idiocy at its finest.

Your side argues that "Earth is warming" and that "oceans are warming." If oceans really were warming, we would have a big breakout in cane activity on Earth. Hurricanes are directly correlated with ocean temps.

But that is not happening at all.

Record for furthest NORTH Cat 5 storm.... 1938

That would put Big Mike and homO's house underwater....

The record decade for canes is still the 1940s, second place the 1890s...

and since you are such the chosen climate change expert here, how about answering a few basic climate questions for us...

1. Why does one Earth polar circle have 9+ times the ice of the other?
2. Why is there ice age glacier south of Arctic Circle on Greenland but no such ice age glacier north of Arctic Circle on Alaska?
3. If the oceans are "warming" why is the record decade for canes still the 1940s?
4. If the oceans are "rising" why can't we see one single photo of land sinking?
5. How did Co2 thaw North America and freeze Greenland at the same time?

At one time, I remember when the weather forecaster used to explain tomorrows weather guess. Just magnetic symbols placed on a map of the UK. Then the next day, it was hot, sunny, raining, downpours, high winds etc.. Life carried on.

Now, the map goes red, and words such as smashes, historic, risk-to-life, catastrophic, surges, battering, dangerous and destructive, walloping, record books, slams, terrifying, grips, comes screaming out, yet we're not experiencing anything greatly different to the past. Once in a blue moon, it got a bit wetter, a bit hotter etc.. but the mental breakdown over the weather has gone epic. Everything grinds to a halt when 10 snowflakes or more fall.

It sounded like Florida was going to be ripped off the map, now it's a Cat 3.

The weather is not declining, it's the mental health of those that worry to death about all of this weather crap.

These kinds of events happen sometimes in Florida as well as other places. This part of the country gets severe frozen tundra sometimes during the winter.

just part of life.

We were in the Epcot centre one year and the heavens opened, we don't get downpours like that in the UK, we loved it. The problem was, I made an error in only having one pair of trainers which got soaked, so I had to go to Walmart the next day to buy a new pair. In fact, when we were on the sunbeds and it rained, we lay out in the heat and rain. The locals galloped off inside.

I own 1 jumper and a fleece, it has to drop below 5c (41f) before I consider wearing one. I was brought up in the Rugby days at school which was always in the winter, the snow used to be horizontal due to the wind, lol. Rugby top, shorts, socks, and boots. For leg protection, rub olive oil on, and that was it.
