Music of my youth - Early, ealy years up into late teens

Led Zeppelin was formed in London in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page after the breakup of the Yardbirds, a British blues-rock band:

  1. Page, a former Yardbirds lead guitarist, began looking for talented musicians to form a new band. He was impressed by Robert Plant, the lead singer of the British band Hobbstweedle, and hired him as the front man for his new band, which he originally called the New Yardbirds.

  2. Plant recommended John Bonham, the drummer for Hobbstweedle, to join the band, but it took some time to convince him.

  3. Page also recruited John Paul Jones, a bassist and keyboard player who was a veteran studio musician like Page. Jones was suggested by his wife after Dreja dropped out of the project to become a photographer. Page and Jones had known each other since they were both session musicians.

  4. The four musicians organized a jam session in a London basement and realized they had something special. They played their first gig in Gladsaxe less than a week later, and then toured Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.
Led Zeppelin's style drew from a variety of influences, including blues, folk, and psychedelic rock, and they are considered one of the originators of hard rock and heavy metal. Their progressive sound quickly became popular with the rock scene, and they developed a huge following in the US, though they avoided television appearances. Led Zeppelin's legendary live concerts are considered their home, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

My Dad was from Bulgaria and he had an old record from there that he played a lot. This song was on it; I have no idea where I can find the original version.

Trivia question answer. This was the very first song the newly formed "New Yardbirds", otherwise known as Led Zeppelin played when they met and jammed together.

What is always odd is how confusing the names can be. New Yardbids vs "New Yardbirds" as you know.

Led Zeppelin's first-ever public performance. Billed as “The New Yardbirds,” the quartet was assembled as a means of fulfilling tour contracts put together by Jimmy Page's then-main band, The Yardbirds, long after Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton had both left the group.
