Sucks to be them. Work first and pray on your own time, not company time

About 150 workers, most of them immigrants from Somalia, have been fired from a meat packing and distribution plant on Colorado's Eastern Plains for walking off the job to protest a workplace prayer dispute.

Ten days ago more than 200 workers walked off their jobs at Cargill Meat Solutions in Fort Morgan.

Some workers later returned, but the majority stayed away as representatives of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) negotiated on their behalf.

On Tuesday Cargill, through its attorneys, fired the workers who were holding out, said Jaylani Hussein, a spokesman and executive director of CAIR.

Cargill is a Kansas-based company.

Some of the fired employees have been working at the plant for up to 10 years, Hussein said.Cargill had previously allowed Muslim employees to pray at the plant, even providing a prayer room, he said.

Depending on the season, the Muslim workers prayed at different times of the day, typically in about five-to-10 minute blocks, Hussein said. But recently a decision was made at the plant to change the practice.

"The workers were told: 'If you want to pray, go home,' " Hussein said.

This born again couple got fired because they wouldn't stfu about Jesus. One thing I like about right to work

No breaks at all at this plant?

If they'd needed a smoke break, no one would have objected.

I'm sure the Kim Davis crowd will start a Go Fund Me for them

They previously had the right to a prayer break. If they had been Christian, there would have been an uproar on how Christians are targeted and discrimminated against.

Walk off and yeah you're probably going to get axed

SOLUTION:

Muslims should stay in Islamic nations.

The American work culture and system of doing business clashes with Islamic customs.

America needs to cease coaxing workers from these places, we are setting ourselves up for ruin.

This was not done out of spite. It made sense that 200 of the 2000 workers could not just leave their posts at the same time unless it was during a scheduled break or lunch break. No other religion or ideological group would be considered for such exceptions. I applaud the move by Cargill. I hope more businesses start sending the right and fair messages to all people.

"...director of communications for Cargill, told the Greeley Tribune that employees of all faiths are allowed to use a reflection area, but that because employees work on an assembly line only one or two at a time can use the area, to avoid slowing production."

The fact they work on an assembly line is why Cargill doesn't have to give an accommodation

You, of course, would be completely passive in a work situation if you'd been entitled to breaks before and they were arbitrarily taken away.

And, as others have mentioned, if these workers were Christians, you'd be characterizing them as martyrs here.

No, you just have dumb rebuttals.

They were not arbitrarily taken away either. They were taken away for a necessary reason.

Keep defending Islam and hating on Christianity. You will go far.

Call Cargill and ask, IDK. Why do you feel the need to defend Muslims at every turn....plus throw in a Christian insult? You a muzzie lover?

It is pathetic the fake Christians here see Cargill as right for denying Muslims their right to prayer.

Cargill will be sued, will lose 10s of hundreds of millions of dollars in a class action law-suit and probably be forced to sell their plant to some other company that isn't a bunch of RELIGIOUS BIGOTS.

They were fired for walking off the job and not returning, so it is their lost. I do not care if they are Muslim, Christian or someone that prays to a damn oak tree because if you walk off your job and refuse to return then the company should have the right to replace you.

Rules change, and it is your choice to accept them or not, and if it is the not then find another job that will accommodate your needs.

Their loss and CAIR can suck my big toe on this issue!

they should pray on their breaks or during their lunch break. Same with Christians and any religion.

Employee breaks are scheduled. Never does an entire line or plant shut down for an employee break.

Prayer time is prayer time for everyone. No company can sustain this kind of burden.

No, they walked off the job and refused to return to work, so that is cause to dismiss the individual.

Cargill is under no obligation to provide the accommodation if it puts the company under a hardship, it's an assembly type workplace and would create a unreasonable hardship to the company. They wouldn't have a prayer in a suit

No it's not, because the walk-off is related to a civil right, therefore it is not over yet. Unless you're a naive moron who doesn't think a law suit funded by $billions of dollars supported by CAIR, ACLU, and other liberal left-wing support groups isn't about to blast into the face of Cargill like a cannon at point blank range.

To illustrate why what you say is absurd...

It's like saying a woman lost her job for walking off the job, because she refused to give her boss sex...

That would be a sexual harassment lawsuit the company would lose instantly.
