The Full Moon
For the past month unknown individuals have been setting off carnival/fair grade fireworks throughout our neighborhood, town and the surrounding towns and cities. Unable to sleep well what with constant booms and flashes from approximately 2100-0300, I did a bit of research through several search engines. Seems we aren't the only Americans experiencing this non-stop nightly assault on our senses and those of our suffering canine companion. Turns out people in towns and cities from New York to Boston to Chicago to LA and many, many other locations are reporting in some places as much as two-hundred times more illegal fireworks detonations than around this same time last year. Further digging on the matter revealed police in some major cities are refusing to do much of anything about this nightly terrorizing of thousands—perhaps millions—of citizens living in their jurisdictions.

So, does anyone out there have more information about what the hell is up with all the illegal fireworks going off every single night recently, from coast to coast? How bad is it in your area? While some might reckon the fireworks plague to "coming up" on July 4th, that definitely ain't it. This nightmare of booms began at least a month ago. Anyway, I've got my theories about it all. What are some of yours?

Here in my neighborhood in Toledo, Ohio, there's a few neighbors of mine who have been setting off fireworks every night since shortly after the shut down. I don't know about your neighbors, but mine say they are protesting the shut down.

I went over there a few times and joined in the festivities. First time I've been in a roman candle war since I was a teenager. I got hit square in the chest once. But scored at least 3 hits. I went back home with a big powder burn on my white T-shirt. My wife asked what happened. I just told her it's a guy thing she wouldn't understand.

Interesting. Thanks.

What a coincidence.

Yes, here in my Los Angeles neighborhood, there have been loud "boom" sounds around midnight and in the early morning hours.

I have just realized that they are fireworks.

Is it maybe another way that the organizers of the Insurrection are showing contempt for this country?

Fireworks are legal here in the great state of Texas but only during the following periods:

June 24-July 4 – Independence Day
Dec. 20-Jan. 1 – New Year's Eve
In certain counties, the county commissioners’ court approves selling fireworks in their county during certain periods. If your county approves, you can sell fireworks during these periods:

Feb. 25-March 2 – Texas Independence Day
April 16-21 – San Jacinto Day
May 1-5 – Cinco de Mayo (only at a location that is not more than 100 miles from the Texas-Mexico border)
May 25-30 – Memorial Day

I rarely hear them and my pup couldn’t care less.

Back in the 80's the firework ban was hardly enforced. For all the good stuff Giuliani did for NYC his crackdown on fireworks was one of the bad ones. Bloomberg continued it. Under DiBlasio enforcement has been spotty at best. My neighborhood has a big display on the 4th, done in a small corner by a highway. No one ever stops it (likely because some of the people doing it are cops)

Fireworks make me recall my childhood, I wish they were legal in NY, even if you need a permit to light them off, and even if they were restricted to just a few days here and there.

Better than a ban no one respects or follows.

Its funny in South Florida you can buy fireworks in grocery stores ad roadside stands but the rule is they don't go boom or up in the air, so basically they are sparklers. If you want the real things you have to go to a fireworks store and sign a paper saying you are using them to scare away birds

Those are mortars.
Totally legal in a lot of states.

They can be deadly in some cases.
Some dude went to look down the tube of one that failed to fire....until it did.
Took off half his face and killed him.

Mortar tubes are illegal in Maryland.

They are in a lot of states.
Hell, they're the only thing I buy come the 4th and New Years.
I might pick up one of those ginormous rolls of firecrackers that go off for five minutes to add to the grand finale.
The guy that lives by the green on the sixth hole about four houses down from me sets off a show that rivals some pro setups.
He has pallets with dozens of tubes setup on em and uses electricity to set em off. He even ads choreographed music.

Haven't heard so much as a firecracker this year. A low grade fireworks tent usually goes up in the Walmart parking lot (emits showers of sparks) but I haven't even seen that.

No fireworks here--Of course, here in Idaho..there is the danger of return fire....

Does N Idaho really have a lot of right wing paramilitary groups or a big lie ??
Mostly a big lie based on old history. A lot of preppers to the far north, I hear.
I live in Southern Idaho--huge dairy region and a lot of Mormons

There has been some around me, not too bad, not too late. I've wondered what the special occasion was. The one guy is a fireman and the other guy I suspect involved is a friend of the cops.
