NO AIRLINE 50 BILLION DOLLAR BAIL OUT! Budget your damn money to deal with emergencies.

Trump supports it and it's infuriating. Why should every American give 166.00 of their own money to a for profit business?!

We went through this bullshit with GM and Solyndra. Of which BOTH companies filed for bankruptcy AFTER getting our money.

NO MORE!

When the economy crashed in 08 my business struggled to stay afloat for a couple years and I got exactly ZERO dollars to help support me or my employees.

NO MORE FUCKING BAIL OUTS FOR WEALTHY CORPORATIONS.

4 words:

"Too Big To Fail"

Remember that crap?

For about a year they had nonstop flights from KC to Iceland.

ICELAND

Of course that money pit ended. These are the kinds of asinine decisions that cost airlines BILLIONS. Yet you're willing to pay for their losses?

That was probably WOW Airlines, they were an Icelandic carrier and their hub was Reykjavik. Their problem is they grew too quickly, not that they had non-stop flights to Iceland, it's actually not a bad place to hub for trans-Atlantic flights.

Anyway, point being they weren't bailed out, they weren't even a U.S. carrier.

I agree

I believe this will force "the mysterious hidden forces" behind control of the market to "adjust" payments and earnings to make up for the loss of tax dollars....

if BIG BUSINESS wants people to fly (and I'm sure they do) they'll just have to pay them enough to afford it!
There are often round trip tickets to Florida or California for 69.00 from KC.

In what world does that price reflect reality and actual cost?
Don't get me wrong, I love a good deal but it's not much of a deal when every tax payer has to bail them out every 10 years.
Those are off-day flights just to get the planes back to where there are paying customers. It's like leasing a piece of heavy equipment. Letting it sit idle costs big.

Airlines need to drop non-profitable routes. If they can't make money from flying a route, don't fly it. Basic economics.
The airlines already use a lot of very expensive algorithms to minimize waste and they still have to run empty routes that eventually get the planes back to where the demand is. Think of trains. They very often run empty cars back to the factories and mines where they are needed. It all evens out.

Nothing subsidized EVER evens out!
Why da' fuck do you think we're 20+ trillion, or is it now 21+ trillion in debt?
So explain why you want airline travel to be something only the wealthy can afford in a country that is thousands of miles wide.

Hey, the first time I went to Europe I flew nonstop to Iceland. Stopped there enroute to Luxembourg.

Or as you spell it, ICELAND.

To this day I regret not staying over there for a while.

What's yer problem with Iceland? Got a problem with white people?

I went at the end of 2018, awesome place.

Any business that can't be run at a profit shouldn't be in business. Don't expect the taxpayer to pay your way.

Yeah rub it in :death:

I was on Icelandair. Stopped at Keflavik AFB but that's all I got to see on a refuel stop. Was headed for France one-way with no clear idea how vagabonding would go, turned out I could have burned a few days but ya can't know these things in advance.

Great, don't buy anymore gas.

I'll be sure to pass that along next time I swing by the nuclear power plant.

Oil companies are making great profits, despite the fact that gasoline has a 50% plus state/federal/local tax slapped on it to enrich politicians.

Politicians don't make money off of taxes.

Oil companies don't pay the consumer taxes. If they cant make a product affordable then they should go out of business,no?

I'm all for coal.

Sorry airlines we can't bail you out but we can put you up in a hotel for the night....

Is it nice where you live? In a place where politicians don't use the public dime to enrich themselves.

I'd be more concerned with Trump bailing out the Cruise industry.

“I can tell you it’s an industry that was very badly impacted by what’s going on with the virus, and it’s a great industry, it’s a very important industry,” he said. “And we will be helping them and we will be helping the airline industry if we have to, assuming we have to.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2020/03/13/trump-offers-support-cruise-lines-during-coronavirus-outbreak-while-asking-them-stop-sailing/

FYI Many if not most employees on cruise ships are not American citizens.

You may not know this but airlines and airports would probably not even exist as we know them without heavy government subsidy going back to the beginning of commercial flight. The entire industry is considered critical public infrastructure. They must exist at any cost. We do not have a national airline like practically every other country but in a way they all are.
One airline drops the rest will see a large uptick in business. The problem will solve itself via demand and supply. We are no longer a fledgling nation.
It is right and proper for the government to support the airline industry during temporary disruptions since we regulate every single aspect of their industry and need them operational immediately after the crisis passes.
The Illinois governor has closed all bars and restaurants for almost a month. Who is going to pay those people Bill's? Who is going to put food on their tables? Who is going to pay the business owners for their losses?

We CAN NOT pay everyone. It is time to pay the people who drive our economy not those who profit from it.

Why Grampa, you almost sound like a socialist!!!!

We CAN NOT pay everyone. It is time to pay the people who drive our economy not those who profit from it.

The only alternative to profit is to literally pay everyone. That's already been tried ... and it failed miserably.

I'm talking about paying those who the government are FORCING out of their jobs via all these mandated shut downs.

You break it you own it.

If taxes go up, it doesn't go into politicians pockets

If taxes go up to support a program, the politicians who vote to fund that program get paid, big time, by those who will profit from the program.

No politician spends 10's of millions of dollars to elected to a job that pays $150,000 a year.
