St. Louis County reaches $750,000 settlement after woman's dog was fatally shot in SWAT raid
Police Agree To Pay Woman $750,000 After Raiding Her House and Killing Her Dog Over an Unpaid Gas Bill
"The lead officer in the SWAT raid is a part of the department’s Problem Properties Unit, which goes after neglected properties in St. Louis County.
Zorich’s attorney says police were tipped off by one of her neighbors for not having her gas on."
It appears the officers kicked in the door, the family dog was perceived as a threat and was shot in the back as it ran towards its owners for protection. The officers then forced the woman to kneel down in a puddle of the dog's blood with a rifle pressed into the back of her head while an officer read them the warrant as the dog was yelping and dying in agony.
"During the trial, St. Louis County argued Zorich’s pit bull charged at SWAT members. However, pictures of the dog presented by the defense showed the pit bull was shot in the back."
