What Bendog wants is for Norquist to force Republicans to make a similar pledge to cut Medicare so the Dims can wage a propaganda campaign against them saying they want to push Grandma off a cliff. Then they'll claim the Republicans caused the deficit because they didn't want to raise taxes.

Yep, standards aren't something they demand from their party and their elected asses. they only worry over the other party.

why anyone would want to belong to the progressive/dem party of today is beyond me. they are hostile towards us citizens, calls us every name they can think up, never holds their elected idiots to have morals or principles, they change their views...they call it EVOLVING. NOT FLIP FLOPPING.

Did you notice that the budget for SS 19.3, the tax revenue from SS is 25 percent. Sounds to me like SS is still paying for itself. Was that your point?

My original post was that at some pt in the future, medicare, soc sec and interest will consume every tax dollar. Medicare is already the single largest outlay, and not only will more retirees be on it, it's inflation level outstrips gnp growth. All that is INEVITABLE unless a magic unicorn allows the gop to end one or both entirely, and unicorns do not exist, esp magic ones.

Current pie charts are not an issue.


We will lose the power to set our own interest rates, because we will have to offer better rates to attract people to buy our debt. In short, our way of life will disappear. UNLESS, we reform these programs.

Even thinking conservatives like Coburn realize there's got to be some more revenue OR means test. Coburn went for the latter to avoid Norquist's wrath.

G5000's reasoning, and dblack's as well, are various groups who get benefits others don't get all want to keep their benefits and have somebody else pay the freight. However, with soc sec and medicare EVERYONE gets the benefit, so long as they worked the quarters and paid the taxes. Sure, the rich have taxes capped, but basically benefits are capped as well. Norquist is a bigger danger to the US than ISIS
