Not everyone wants all electric automobiles

I think tidal power will always be rough to sustain especially with increased climate change. But we could do a lot more with geothermal if the govt really got behind it instead subsidizing oil, gas, and coal exploration. Iceland runs on it.
What kind of equipment is needed to drill geothermal holes???????? You know. The equipment is impossible to manufacture without using fossil fuels! The steel casings aren't made from bamboo!
Fucking wise up!

Nothing is ever emission free the point is to have a power source that in the net produces more emission free power than it takes to make the equipment.

Right now a car will pollute the air significantly more than the process to make the car does.
Biden has promised to install 500K 'highway' charging stations. Where is the electricity needed to quick charge your Tesla while you eat your twenty dollar Big Mac? From ancient 'leaking' power lines coming from hydro electric stations five hundred miles away?
What about the other Tesla owners lined up behind you waiting for their charge-up?

That's a real problem with EVs. But I do think EVs have a place. Most people drive less than 40 miles to work daily and less than that conducting daily business like shopping, going to the bank etc.

Personally this is where I think an EV is a good choice since it's the daily drive not the occasional long road trip that contribute to emissions and pollution
How many thousands does it cost to have your own EV charging station at your home? Let alone the cost in your electric bill. The soon to be extinct middle class sure as hell can't afford to buy a EV.
"Guess what honey? I just got a raise to $15 an hour!. Now we can afford to buy that 80K Tesla and have a 10K charging station installed! "
In 1999 a flat screen TV cost $1,500! You can get eight TVs for that today.
I have a 65" OLED that cost more than that. It depends on the size and picture quality.

My point was advances in technology make for cheaper technology. A 1999 flat screen can't compare to the performance off a 2021 flat screen, sure. But you got less for more twenty years ago.

The costs are borne by the initial adapters. I bought a new roof for my house in 2010. I was the very first home owner in my town to install a standing seam steel roof. A 987 sq. ft. house roofed for $8,400.

Within five years, there were dozens of homes with metal roofs and the cost has been reduced by 15% . I retired as the county building inspector four years ago, so the information I gave is accurate.

How much computing power could $1,500 buy ten years ago. How much could it buy today?

And no one forced people to buy those roofs, those computers or those televisions...........they are going to force people to buy electric vehicles even though they can't produce the electricity for those vehicles with solar and wind....and will need coal, oil, and natural gas to produce those electric cars...
Why do you believe sustainable energy sources can't work?
Conservatives are a drag on human evolution. Thats pretty much their job in life is to be afraid of technological advancement unless its with guns and bombs.

Its a cleaner energy for starters.

So, electricity used to power cars made by coal powered electric plants is cleaner than gasoline?
Yes. Gas burns dirty. Much dirtier than electricity. Didnt you know that?

When battery is old, it goes into landfill....causes more pollution.....
So does the battery of a gas powered car. All the while the car is producing even more pollution.

Our paid-for solar recharging system produces personalized energy unavailable for exploitation by the petroleum pimp. It will be the future of at least a portion of personal transportation, including travel on water and in the air (ex., 4-prop drones).
Yep. My rooftop panels have been supplying the grid with excess energy many a year now.

The democrats are skipping the step where the market creates the ability to convert.....that is why it will be a disaster.....rolling black outs, and cars that won't work because we don't have the electrical capacity for them.

Rolling blackouts aren't about a lack of capacity as much as they are about the reduction of wildfire risk.

Do you have gas light in your home, or electric light? Do you fuel your camp lantern with whale oil or white gas? Do you need a buggy whip in the course of the day? Have you bought an 8 track tape in the last two years? When you make a telephone call, do your fingers engage a dial or buttons?

Technology moves on. Infrastute moves along with it. And just because you see nothing advantageous in it, it can't be due to politics. The market moves.

Because they can't....not right now with the level of technology we have for them....solar and wind have to be backed up by coal, and natural gas, in particular in places where you have winter.....where the sun doesn't shine and the wind turbines freeze and don't move.

I am all for energy of all kinds....just don't force us to use energy that doesn't work as well as coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear....get it to work as well as those sources and I am all in.

It is politics...left wing politics...they don't care if it works, it just has to fit their secular, green, religious beliefs......

When it actually works, I will support it....but it doesn't work now, so I won't support it.

Not everyone in the world wants or can accept all electric automobiles. Why are certain factions in the US trying to force this all electric cars on the entire world?. It is not right or logical.

The same can be said about all gas powered cars.

There are millions of people out there who were forced to use those horrible smelling vehicles for decades.

So it's ok to force people to use a gas powered vehicle but it's not ok to try to phase those horrible smelling and climate destroying vehicles out from being used?

Bull.

I was behind a truck the other day that spewed so much exhaust that it stuck up my whole car. I had to turn on to another street to get out from behind it and clean out the stanch in my car.

I made the choice in 2001 to never buy another regular gas powered car again. It didn't take long to realize how horrible those cars smell. I don't know how anyone can stand that smell as they're driving. The only thing I can think of is you get used to it. But getting used to it isn't stopping all the health and environmental destruction from driving those vehicles.

Electric cars are the future.

No one is forcing you to do anything. If you don't want to drive an electric car there's always public transportation. You can ride in an electric powered form of public transportation.

You no longer have the right to destroy our planet with your filthy fossil fuels.

Its a cleaner energy for starters.
that has yet to be proven,,
Maybe in Qannon circles but the rest of the world already knows this.
how can you know the long term effects on something that hasnt ever existed before??
Electricity has been around a long time. The computer you are on right now uses it. How much pollution does your computer produce?

So no pollution in the use of electricity?
Significantly less than burning fossil fuels.

So no fossil fuels are involved in the use of electricity?
Who told you that? Currently most electricity is generated by fossil fuels....with the exception of sun and wind generated electricity. I have some security cameras and lights that run off solar.

You would have to exclude the state of Washington in that.

We started closing down our last coal fire plant in 2005. I don't know the progress but I'm sure it's been finished being closed down by now.

We don't get our electricity from fossil fuels in Washington.

We get it from water, wind, solar, natural gas and one very small nuclear facility in the middle of nowhere for the few farmers and ranchers out there.

We started building one of the largest wind farms in the nation in the 90s. When it first came on line it generated too much electricity for the existing grid to handle. So we voted to raise our taxes to pay to build a new and much better grid.

Now, we have more electricity than we use so we sell it to other states for a profit.

We have the second lowest electric rates in the nation.

We also have a very high percentage of electric and hybrid vehicles here. They are very popular. We have public charging places all over the area.

Fossil fuels still have a place but not to be used to generate electricity or run a vehicle.

Youre the one claiming electric powered devices have not existed before. Are you stupid or just being paid to pretend you are?
where did I say that???

you should go back and read it,, cause thats not what I said,,
What were you saying hasnt existed before? We were talking about electric powered cars.
correct,, and then you started talking about electricity and other devices,,,
You do realize an electric car is a electric powered device right?

You do realize that the only way to generate enough electric power is through coal and oil...right? And the mining needed to make those batteries is as dirty or dirtier than using coal, oil and natural gas....and the batteries are environmental disasters when they are old and no longer working.......

You guys are so dumb........you don't think anything through...

Actually no it's not.

My state doesn't use coal or oil to generate electricity.

We use water, wind, solar, natural gas. A small nuclear facility in the middle of nowhere for the ranchers there.

No fossil fuels are used to generate electricity here.

We have so much electricity that we can't use it all and sell the excess to other states for a profit.

We have the second lowest electric rates in the nation.

As for electric cars, they are on the road all over the place here. They drive just fine and have no problems with power.

Funny how it's those people who call others dumb or stupid who really are what they call others.

What you're doing is classic projection.

Around here, the majority of the Electricity is generate by Hydro Electric. And has been for the past 40 years. #2 is Natural Gas and we got rid of all our Coal and Oil Fired Plants. Over 20% of the Electricity is now from Wind and Solar around here. Our VA Hospital used to use coal and oil to make it's own electric power. Today, the outdoor parking is covered by Solar Panels and they don't spend a dime on the electric grid outside of the minimum hookup charge.

Every new commercial build here gets solar power. Not because the Government required it (they don't) but because it make more sense for the capitalistic bottom line. Times march on with or without you.

Is hydro good for river species

Yes, that debate and problem was solved in the 20th century.

All that has to be done is spill the water at certain times of the year when fish are migrating.

Which has what has been happening at dams all over the nation since the 90s.

Find another excuse.

False

Only if youre a Qannon believer. Other people already know the facts about solar powered cars.

not really inspiring there bub..yeah they are working on it but arent close
Its hard to inspire conservatives. They have trouble visualizing anything past the next day.
USual BS...difference between inspire and force. Have posted on this site an EV i might buy if it lives up to its claims. Early Leaf buyers had nothing but regrets,
No one is forcing you. You can keep your fossil fuel burner long after electric cars become the norm. I said inspire. Early adopters of most technology have regrets. However, those with vision can use that to change the world and make it a less poisonous place to live.
Like I’m sorry I bought a beeper. Or 8 track. Or mp3.

You wanna buy my Betamax?
Probably is worth some money like old radios...I'd hang on to it if I were you. Non sequitor. Are you aware that US emissions per capita are at 1950 levels? Now think what life was like then compared to now and marvel at that accomplishment.

I don't have to look anything up. I can go by my own life. BlackSnow, Dirty Air, polluted water and more. The Industrial Revolution of 1895 for the US had gotten completely out of control. Oh, lt's add mud slides where there once were forests. And let's not forget the dead fish and the gunk in the rivers. Corporate America gone crazy. Capitalists destroy everything if allowed all for a short term profit. Capitalism without the desired amount of Socialism (regulations) is a disaster.

We've come a very long way and we have not corrected it all yet. We owe it to Mother Earth to do better. I am High Country. While most of our beliefs coincide with Conservatives, one thing that is the MOST conservative of all is that we don't own the land. We are stewards put in place by God.
There is no mother earth. Quit the psycho green babble and celebrate whats been done. No need for more onerous regulations with things heading quickly in the right direction.

I come from a time long before the New Green Deal when we were caretakers. We took what we needed and protected everything else. In my younger days, I put out more feed than the cattle could eat just to help feed the Deer and the Elk during hard winters. I took a tree, I planted a tree. I cleared a wooded area only to help another wooded area. When forest fires started, WE were the first ones there long before the BLM or the Forest Service and many times, would contain the fire before it got out of hand.

We don't live up there anymore but we still have to make sure that we continue to be the stewards. It has nothing to do with politics.

I remember this commercial when I was a kid. What did conservative kids think when they saw this commercial? Instead of getting the message, they probably had a problem with the indian in the commercial because their parents were raising them to be racists.

View attachment 451412

I was a kid too when that commercial came out.

It was a very effective ad.

I can't speak for all parents but my parents loved and agreed with the commercial.

Come to think of it, I have never encountered anyone who didn't like and agree with that ad.

I never considered that someone wouldn't like or agree with it.

Most EVs come with a charger you can plug into a standard 120 volt wall socket or you can upgrade to a 240 volt charger for about 1200 dollars

And the cost of the additional electricity will be offset to some degree or maybe even completely by the fact that you aren't buying gasoline every week or paying for oil changes every 3000 miles.

You need to actually research these things before you start complaining about them.

You don't have to buy a Tesla either.

We bought my ex a chevy Volt in 2013.

It plugs right into the wall socket in the garage.

It increased our electric bills about 15 dollars a month.

car batteries do not go into landfills with any great regularity.

Auto shops recycle them and even if you DIY the auto parts stores will charge you extra if you don't bring your old battery in for them to recycle

Not everyone in the world wants or can accept all electric automobiles. Why are certain factions in the US trying to force this all electric cars on the entire world?. It is not right or logical.
A lot of people drive more than 250 miles a day and cannot wait 6 hours to charge their so they continue their journey
most don't and that's where EVs make the most sense

Yep......but again.......there is no reason to force people into EVs......when people want them they will buy them....it is the forcing people that is the issue.

There will be an eventual transition and I think more people will have at least one EV and one gas powered car there is no way all automobile companies will phase out all gas powered cars as long as people still want them.

I would consider an EV as a daily driver. To me that makes the most sense and it will have the most impact on air quality than the occasional long trips people make with a gasoline powered car

The chevy Volt already does that.

We bought one for my ex in 2013. The range on his electric isn't that far but people don't really drive that far around town.

When the electric is drained, the gas engine takes over. So the car has a range of a few hundred miles. If you don't have time to recharge on a long trip, just keep filling the gas tank and keep driving.

The only time he filled the tank was when we went on a long drive but day to day, he very rarely used the gas.

believe solar grids will be incorporated into the roads

Driving on top of solar cells?
There is a company in Sandpoint, ID who is currently testing solar cells in the pavement of a parking lot there. The test has been ongoing for a couple of years. I don't know how successful they have been and I don't know if they have experienced problems with rubber residue that has to be a prob, but even if they have to put cells in the medians of all the interstates, I could see benefit. This will take YEARS to accomplish though--definitely not overnight.

believe solar grids will be incorporated into the roads

Driving on top of solar cells?

Solar cells aren't known for being very sturdy, especially when you're driving heavy vehicles over them. Yeah, rubber, dirt, and oil are other issues that highlight the silliness of solar roads.

It increased our electric bills about 15 dollars a month.
a lot less than gas and oil changes then

Thanks for the info

Anytime.

That was winter rates. In the summer it was around 8 to 10 dollars a month increase.
