Obama Ditches Thatcher Funeral

What prime minister funerals did Bush attend?

Which Prime Ministers died?

Edward Heath and James Callaghan, both died in 2005.

Was President Bush invited? Were they small private funerals?

You see for Thatcher's funeral Obama's administration had been invited. It's harder to get an invite to Baroness Thatcher's funeral than it is to get one to a royal wedding once source joked.

Lady Thatcher's funeral is invitation only. It's reached the level of a state funeral. Matching Churchill's.

Were Heath's and Callaghan's private and not state? Because there is a world of difference.

Actually, there is a delegation going over...

If you read the story that I posted - it clearly states that no member of his cabinet/administration. The point is, not one person in the U.S. government will be attending (made all the more tragic by the fact that they made sure there were some there for communist dictator Hugo fuck'n Chavez).

why not appreciate all the money that will be saved by not having to worry about security?

Great point! However... why not save money on his endless extravagant vacations, his endless extravagant golf outings, his wife's $10,000 "ballroom" gowns, and the cost of sending the people to dictator Hugo Chavez's funeral, and actually show respect for the beloved leader of our closest ally?

By the way, being that Obama and the left pretend to be all about "girl-power", wouldn't it be on the top of his agenda to pay respects to Britain's first female leader? :dunno:

Beloved leader? Hell, her hometown won't even honor her.

By the way, being that Obama and the left pretend to be all about "girl-power", wouldn't it be on the top of his agenda to pay respects to Britain's first female leader?

That's a new low, even for a moron like you.

Maybe President Obama finds her long history of blatant racism objectionable:

Obama's not going because there were rumors Thatcher was a Racist?

I thought only Americans were racists...

You people have got to make up your minds. See

Americans = racist, homophobe heartless bastards

Europeans = perfect

The funeral for Baroness Thatcher is by invitation only. This funeral will be on par with Winston Churchill's funeral.

President Obama did not have to be her personal friend. He is the head of your state.

My Prime Minister did not know Thatcher either. But Prime Minister Harper is attending with a full delegation of past and present individuals from our Parliament including former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.

This is about proper decorum and diplomacy. Obama directly snubbed Britain by not sending anyone in his current administration.

What do you expect from a President who pays the women on his staff less than the men?

Nancy Reagan's not going either

Are you seriously trying to call out Nancy Reagan for not flying all the way around the world at the age of 91? Oh my God.... only the modern day dumbocrat :lmao:

According to news reports Mrs. Reagan is quite distraught at not being able to attend because of her health.

Gorbachev is unable to attend as well due to his ill health.

Bullshit that she was a racist.

"Baroness Thatcher played a constructive role in promoting evolutionary change in South Africa throughout her period as prime minister.

"She was a steadfast critic of apartheid and consistently urged the South African government to release Nelson Mandela and to embark on fundamental constitutional change."

He said she had a much better grasp of the complexities and geo-strategic realities of South Africa than many of her contemporaries and realised there would be no peaceful solution to South Africa's problems unless the reasonable concerns of the citizens were taken into consideration.

De Klerk said after her retirement in 1993, upon a visit to South Africa, he had bestowed her with the Order of Good Hope, then the highest honour that could be awarded to a non-South African.

"I can think of no one who was more deserving of such recognition," he said.

I don't recall obama attending his grandmothers funeral maybe he doesn't deal well with death.

Or maybe he didn't want to turn it into a right wing side show.

Look how the right wing attacks his wife and tried to put his children in danger.

obama didn't go to his grandmothers funeral because he did not want to turn it into a right wing side show? Are you fuck in the head? Yes I believe you are. The woman raised him you fucking idiot.

Gee, when will Thatcher's own hometown honor her?

After weeks of contentious debate, Margaret Thatcher’s home town of Grantham has decided to put up a statue of the former prime minister.

The town’s volunteer-run museum announced plans Saturday to raise $300,000 for the commissioning of a statue.

“Whether you agree with her politics or not, she remains one of Grantham’s most famous exports, and one which we at Grantham Museum think should be recognised,” the museum said in a statement announcing the campaign.

“The Museum is confident that this project will be a huge success, and is hoping that endorsements and donations will come from not only the local community but also international support from those who loved and respected our Iron Lady.”

I'm so glad to help you out with your question. And never forget Lakhota that for a woman at that time, she didn't just break thru the "glass ceiling".

Thatcher smashed it to smithereens.

Margaret Thatcher tributes from home town of Grantham
By Caroline Lowbridge BBC News

From the article:

Grantham and Stamford MP Nick Boles said she continues to divide opinion among people in Grantham, describing her as "a bit like Marmite".

"You either love her or hate her, but I think we are just beginning to enter a time when people are beginning to recognise it was a remarkable achievement, not just because she was a woman," said the Conservative MP.

He added: "Margaret Thatcher was one of the most extraordinary women in the history of these islands and Grantham can be very proud to have been the place where she was born and went to school.

"Her towering achievements will never be forgotten."

A spokesman for Thatchers Hair Salon, part of Brick Kiln Place extra care housing complex in Grantham, said she was "a Lincolnshire icon who will be greatly missed".

"Margaret Thatcher will be fondly remembered, particularly for her strong leadership, courage and determination which successfully returned the Falkland Islands to British control following the Argentine invasion in 1982," said the spokesman.

Lady Thatcher, that great "small government" "conservative" was made part of the totalitarian upper class and is now having a state funeral costing the taxpayers millions of dollars. Her funeral is only for the "big people" by special invitation even though the "little people" are paying for it.

You can't do irony this well in fiction.
