From Politico: You gotta love this. The Senator from Texas could have very easily have thrown his Dad under the bus. Nope. He uses some softer contexts but comes out in general agreement with Cruz Sr. - not much difference between Obama's actions and those of Fidel.

“Obviously, there are enormous differences; the United States is not imprisoning and torturing political dissidents,” Ted Cruz said on Wednesday.

“But the point my father was making, he was focusing on a sentence that President Obama used in the last two State of the Union addresses where he said, ‘If Congress doesn’t act, I will.’” Cruz said the line shows how the Obama administration has displayed “disturbing” tendencies similar to a dictatorship.

“One of the most disturbing aspects of the Obama presidency is the willingness of this president to disregard the law,” Cruz said, pointing to Obamacare.

“If [Obamacare]’s the law of the land, the president shouldn’t keep ignoring the law. A president, under a constitutional system, doesn’t have the ability to pick and choose which laws to follow, and that’s the same pattern you see in dictatorial societies where the leader says, ‘Ignore the law. Go with the power of the president instead of the written law.’”

Of course, Ted Cruz's Dad is a political dissident who fled Communist Cuba in the 1950s. As he often tells it, many of his close friends and associates were shot by Fidel's executioners in courtyards in Havana.
